Default Wilmington City Wage Tax (Earned Income Tax)

Hi Everyone

I understand that anyone who lives in "the city of Wilmington" has to pay a city wage tax of 1.25%.
City Departments: Finance: Earned Income Tax

My question is....what zip codes are in the "city of Wilmington"? I know it would include zips like 19806 and 19807, but what about suburban areas like 19803, 19808, 19809, etc. ? Would I have to pay a city wage tax if I lived in any of those zips?

If anyone knows the answer, please let me know. Thanks!!

Default RE:Wilmington City Wage Tax (Earned Income Tax)

I just spoke with the Earned Income Tax Department and they said you pay the tax if you work in or live within the actual city. The tax would not apply if you live in the outlying suburbs (i.e. 19803 zip code) unless you also work in the city.

You can't really go by ZIP Codes, as the postal service has nothing to do with city government. They draw those lines as they wish, since it's for their convenience alone.

The only ZIPs almost entirely in the city (that I can tell) are 19801, 19802, and 19806. About half of 19805 is in the city, and only small parts of 19809 and 19807 are. So really, you need to get an official corporate map for Wilmington to know for sure.

As jstrawley stated, it applies to anyone who works in the city as well, no matter where they live.
