Safest Places to Live In DE?
Hi All !!
I am looking at relocating from Colorado and would like to get general opinions regarding the safest places to live in Delaware. As a single female, safety is very important to me. Feel free to throw out city names or even zip codes as those'll be good places to start.
Also, is there a website anyone knows about, where I can look up the crime rates based on location, or is it just easier visiting a city/county's web site?
Thank you ALL, in advance for helping me out!!

Hi ladymaryw!
Let me be the first to wish you luck on your search for a new place to live! We are relatively new to DE, having moved here Sept 2007. Not sure about "the safest" place, but we are in the Camden area and been quite happy with what we've experienced.
There were several threads regarding crime rates, which you should be able to search for. It does seem there is a hot debate over the rates for Smyrna (I believe the topic is titled "thinking of Smyrna"); parts of New Castle County, and in and around sections of Wilmington do not seem favorable.
Both Dover and Wilmington/Newark have quite a few colleges, which translates into pockets of singles in both areas. In my mind, one's safety is relative to common sense sometimes; in today's crime ridden world, even the safest minded person can become a victim in a snap.
City Data has some pretty good tools, so check them out as well. Hope this helps get you started!
Mary

Thank you SO much, Mary!! I do admit to being tired when I joined the other night so did not look as thoroughly as I might have but you've made me feel better about finding a good place to live.

Glad I could help! I tend to be on here late at night, and don't always read the posts through and through myself!
Keep reading, asking questions, and let us know how your search comes along!

safe: 19806 19707 19808 19810 19807
unsafe: 19801 19802 19805 19720
It's really not that simple, but maybe it will give you a start.

I've lived in Hockessin (19707) my entire life and have never felt unsafe
But I may be a bit biased.

South Bridge in Wilmington is real safe. Best area to live in New Castle County if not the best in the state.

dc,
You're kidding about Southbridge, right? I've read your previous posts and you said you don't like Delaware and you think that Delaware is racist. If you have a grudge with the state, I'm sure it's well founded for some reason or another; But don't mislead someone about an area especially about safety. I know the City has made attempts to revitalize the area with the million dollar condos; however, the area is far from safe. I'm specifically referring to the area north of terminal avenue, which is considered Southbridge.

dc,
I'll retract my comment. You claim in your other post that "Delaware has racial issues" and that moving to Delaware was a mistake. Unfortunately I assumed you meant Delaware was racists. I preemptively apologize. I still stick to my other assertion that South Bridge is far from safe.
