No.
Murky waters, not a nice beach.....maybe for strolling or picnics, and definitely not for swimming.

Thank you, Delly!

Are there any "nice" beaches or marinas with boardwalks, restaurants, and/or shops in Kent County? or are they primarily in Sussex County??

Rachlyn, The type of areas you mention are primarily in Sussex County.

Kent Co. is bordered on the west by Maryland. DE has no geography on the Chesapeake Bay. On the east Kent Co. is along the Delaware Bay. There is no mass tourist destination in that area. Until recently the little towns along the bay were mainly were sleepy, little fishing villages. I think more people may be moving into some of those homes just to be on the water.

You will need to go south of Lewes to find boardwalks, shops, and ocean beaches. If you are thinking of an Annapolis setting, Kent Co. isn't it.

Thank you for the information, Rockky... so you're saying that it would be worth a "day trip" to go to Annapolis and that's a bit less crowded than the beaches south of Lewes?

Rachlyn, Not necessarily Annapolis. I just meant that you won't find shops and tourist stuff in Kent County. There's no waterfront community types of attractions. I can't really say that Annapolis is less crowded. It's simply very different.

Along the Bay there are mainly sleepy, little communities with cottages. The bay is not known for swimming areas.

In Sussex County:

Lewes is a quaint (small shops in town away from the water) atmosphere. It's a very old town that was once a port at the mouth of the Delaware Bay. In the mid 1900s it was primarily a fishing area. The beach area is separate from the town.

Rehoboth has a boardwalk, shops and restaurants on the main drags. The boardwalk has some rides for smaller kids. There are three large outlet shopping centers on Route 1 before you get to Rehoboth.

Old Bethany is the same as Rehoboth only smaller. Bethany's boardwalk has no rides. There are a few good restaurants. The shops are all tourist stops.

Dewey and Fenwick have no boardwalk. The shopping is limited to stores, again geared toward tourists, along Route 1. Fenwick has mini golf and a water park.

The main honkeytonk area is in Ocean City. There is a large boardwalk which offers attractions for all ages.

Of course, since the building boom in the last twenty years or so, the tourist areas have migrated away from the beaches, but they are in Sussex County where the ocean actually meets the land.
