I'm hoping to get there either Friday the 18th or Saturday the 19th. I'd love to be on the grounds at about 6:30 PM on whichever day we visit so that I can see the parade.

Haven't been to the fair since our children were under ten. They're now adults! Now that I'm tempted, after reading some of these posts!, I note that the dates pretty much coincide with travels and family visits.

Charley, I haven't been around much, but am glad to see that you're recovering. I posted about visiting (driving through) Noble's Pond some weeks ago, and had to be told that you'd had, or were about to have, surgery.

Maybe we'll find one day to visit the fair!

I've never had any of that deep fried stuff you wrote about, but funnel cake.....YUM! I usually get that at any fair that has'em.

No jellies, jams and preserves for sale! OMG! I thought all fairs had that. At least I have a friend of jellies, jams and preserves in Marych. See below.

I thought the food was wayyyyyy overpriced. I think it was about 8 bucks a person between drinks, fries, and a hotdog. For a few bucks more I should have went into the buffet at the casino.
From my experience, all fairs are overpriced. It's not just the foods, it's the rent the fair people charge the vendors as well. Since fairs only come once a year, I find it worth it for the novelty. It does turn out to be an expensive day.

I'm an old fashioned girl that still likes to make jams and preserves for gifts... already have 5 dozen jars of strawberry jam made for holiday gift giving. I'm already scouting out the blackberry patches, and searching the "pick your own" options here in central DE. Would love to have at least 5 dozen jars of blackberry done by fair time; it happens to be my favorite too! (Another note to myself, keep searching for jam jars!)

Wow! Can't wait for my welcome to DE present. We just recently finished the jar my hubby picked up from a church in DE. They had all the preserves on a table and a basket for payment. Each jar was noted with a label asking for the jar back. Those mason jars are quite expensive to replace all the time. I'll be looking for you at the fair. Make sure you have your cell phone with you.

It's Opening Day! I hope all who attend enjoy the Delaware State Fair. I'm planning to be there on Saturday and I'm really looking forward to seeing the Fair.

Annie....I just made a Water Run to the fair for some volunteers. 97 Degrees at Noon there! If I didn't have preferred parking, I don't think I'd have made it, and my legs are good! ahhhh.....not 'looking' but 'healthy'. And, thankfully, the driver loaded and unloaded my cases of water. They are sending cars out even farther in the fields this year, almost to Farmington! Those farm wagons are looping around to pick up people, but there's still so much walking because the wagons don't go down every row. The preferred parking is west of the casino, and air conditioned limos (yes, one is a stretch) pick you up and bring you back to your car. I did the farm wagon thing for 50 years and had enough of that! Finally, it's pay-off time!

My family and I will be at the Fair on the 24th. It's my birthday! It would be nice to finally meet some of you, if you are there.

Does anybody know of any "must see" or "must do" stuff for that day at the fair? Please post, if you do. Thanks.

My boys and I will be there, movn2del, on the 24th.... to check out the fair our first year here, and more importantly, to meet you and your family! We're super excited... hope you are too!

Can't tell you of any must see's or must do's, as we have never been to the DE State Fair either. WE want to check out the animal barns, and may end up going earlier than the 24th to do that. If we do go sooner, I'll be sure to post again!

With any luck, we may also run into rdlr while we're there. Maybe some of the other regulars too, we'll see.

See ya on the 24th!

Mary

I'm surely looking forward to seeing you MaryCh. Did you make the blackberry preserves yet? No worries, if you haven't. I'd like to see you more. I don't know about rldr. I was told rldr isn't going to be there that day, unless the plans have changed. As I mentioned to you, I will be wearing my white t-shirt adorned with Skip and Cassidy's picture, surrounded by paw prints. So if anybody from C-D sees the shirt and recognizes it, please approach me and identify yourself. I'd love to meet you. And of course we are super excited to meet you and your boys, MarcyCh.

Wish I could join you gals! But, I'm still doing the Water Lady Run to volunteers at the Fair, and am incorporating that within my work day. Actually, I've seen most all of the Fair, having been there so many times already. Enjoy!

If you should happen to be there, rldr, please call one of us on our cell. It would be great if we could meet up. Not for long, just to see each other and say hi, face-to-face.
