Post Working in Hockessin, where to live?

Hi All -
I might be offered a job in Hockessin, however, will not be making the salary of those that live there do I don't mind commuting ~20-30 min. I'm from VA, 24 year old male and know nothing of DE. I'd love to find a safe community to get an apt or townhouse in. Preferably around greenways and coffee houses. Don't mind progressive/liberal/green communities... Any leads would be helpful - don't assume I know anything about the area! Many thanks to you all!!

musicman,

You might want to consider the City of Newark. It will have many of the amenities that you are seeking. There are a lot of great restaurants and coffee shops along Main Street.
White Clay Creek State Park and Carpenter State Park are with in walking/biking distance.
The City of Newark hosts the University of Delaware. Like any other college town, it's going to be fairly liberal. You should be able to find affordable housing. Also consider the Pike Creek area; however, the rent may be a little higher.

Newark is good, it is cheap, well suited for college kids and early 20-somethings.

Personally, I'm gonna ring the old Trolley Square bell again. I love the neighborhood. It could be a little too pricey.

If you can, try to move into the Little Italy neighborhood of Wilmington. It is very walkable, cheap, and you'll be able to get everything you need within a few blocks including lots of pubs and bars through which you can meet new people.

All three of these areas are around a 10-15 minute drive to Hockessin.

Look around the Pike Creek area. It's very close to Hockessin (about 10 minutes), has plenty of convenient shopping, and quite a few townhouses, condos, apartments to choose from. Plus, the area tends to draw a younger crowd.
