Buying in Massey's Landing DE
My husband and I are in mid fifties and have co-owned with relatives a single wide mobile in Swann Keys park for 12 years on rented ground. It is a great location and we have remodeled and improved the home. The ground rent has increased for us but not as high as Pot Nets so far. Even if the owner would agree to sell we would be unable to afford the lot. They sell for 250,000 +. The community is great but we do not need the pool and club house options, although it is nice.
Although still on rented ground we have had an opportunity to purchase a property in Massey's Landing in Millsboro on a larger lot with a larger home. The ground rent is more affordable. We plan to look at it this week when we are on vacation. Since we are from PA and have a home here we would need to try to sell the Swann Keys property first which could be very difficult. We love where we are at but are looking to get something we could buy without sharing and still stay within our limits. We have a boat and enjoy boating in the bay in De and OCMD. This site is great as Massey's sounds like a great place and the rents would be affordable. We enjoy going out for drinks but do not like to go far.
So can anyone give some feedback on local places close to Masseys and also how is the boating in that area. I have heard boating to Rusty Rudder is a good time. We enjoy relaxed boating and recreational fishing with the kids. Thanks so much.

We just sold our place in Masseys. We closed a week ago. The boat ride to the Rudder is 15 minutes or so in a pontoon boat. There are plenty of private, boat access only beaches within minutes. Which house are you looking at? One of the houses for sale was my neighbor. The rents went up this year, but they are still a fraction of what you'll find at Pot Nets.

We do not know the owner but an employee of the owner. The owner's name is Scott and if is a wider lot on one of the first canals and has 2 driveways. We looked at it on Google Earth. I am not sure we will be able to sell the one in Swann Keys fast enough to get this one but dosn't hurt to look!

There are two for sale on the left side of the first canal, both right on the end of the canal. I know they are asking $229,000 for one of them. I believe their last name is Shomo. There is another on the other side of the canal. It is a double wide on a double width lot with 100' of dock. They are asking $174,000. It's a very nice house. Might be worth a ride to DE to check it out.

This house looks to be the fifth one from the beginning. It is across from the public parking lot on the upper end towards the bay.It has a gazebo in the back with a small dock. We will definately be making the drive there since we are down all week. Thanks so much for responding.

That would be just about across the canal from where we were. Could be another one has popped up for sale since we left.

Did you go close by and why did you sell? did you like Masseys Landing? The downside I see is... if there is a big storm it could get hit hard. I heard the place we are interested in sits a little higher and has been lucky ini the past storms. The other downside is going back west to go east to beach areas as it is on the point. But I really think it looks like a great place and from what I see on this posting site it sounds like the people are great. We will see what happens. The plus side is the fact it is closer so less time and gas.

We moved to Nashville, TN. If we did not need to make a living, we never would have left DE or Massey's. It was a great place to live and the land rent was cheap, but the job market and/or a customer base for our business was non-existent. The last storm we had was the worse in over 20 years according to the residents. No one was flooded. Only one A-framed house on the end of the point lost a roof.

Thanks for the info and best of luck to you. We did go look at the area but did not get to see the inside of the one we were checking on. It seems like a great place. It seems more laid back than where we are now. We will keep our options open for now and keep looking. May get back there again. The house seems small so we would want to see what options are to add on. We were told it is 1 bath. We are in a mobile now that has 2 full baths which is almost a necessity. Thanks again.
