What do you think of Millsboro
We are thinking of moving from central MD to DE. Looking at Millsboro. We are in our mid-late 50's. Any pros/cons about Millsboro?

Just know that when you move to Millsboro there is a Coal run Power plant, the biggest this side of the Mississippi. Other than that i hope you have a big wallet.

We are looking at a little community off Old Landing Road called Magnolia Meadows in the town of Millsboro. Seems well maintained. Does anyone know about it and can provide info? Thanks

Millsboro is a nice run of the mill town. There isn't much to do there that I am aware of and the traffic is very congested because of the small roads and high traffic volume. It's a turning point to a lot of places so it can be quite annoying. There are side roads around a lot of it that you can learn but they're not going to save you that much time. The best thing that I can think to be said for Millsboro is that you can get to a lot of other places in a reasonable amount of time from there.

I lived here for awhile. This is a small town and everyone knows everyone else's business. DO NOT be in a big hurry to spill your guts or tell people your business, personal or otherwise.
Keep in mind that unless you are born here, you will always be treated as an outsider. People will be friendly on the surface, but you can expect to be used for the local's benefit. From the car dealerships, banks, insurance, auctioneers, accountants, etc. When I lived here I was 'referred' from one person after another who tried to take advantage of me. Many of these folks are related.
Watch out for the auctioneer. If you have to use him, make sure you get a second, independent appraisal from someone OUTSIDE the area. Preferably even another state. He likes to tell people he can get a great price at auction for your antiques, etc.. He will tell YOU he only got $5.00 for it at auction. What REALLY happened, is that he already had a buyer looking out for YOUR particular item in a nearby state (in Georgia, S./N.Carolina, etc) and stood to make FAR more from this distant buyer than he ever intended to give you. By the way, he doesn't encourage you to attend your own auction. Small wonder...
Watch out for the banks and DON'T BOTHER renting a safe deposit box. We had one at a bank that starts with a W. When we went to close the box, one of the employees went to fetch our box without bothering to ask us to accompany her. Why didn't she need OUR key to access it? Some items were missing so we complained to the state justice dept.. They said they couldn't (wouldn't) do anything. We have since learned that some of the people there are related to those who work in the banking industry. If you have to put cold hard cash someplace, your better off putting it in a home safe or burring it in your backyard.
Not everyone in this area is bad, but there are enough opportunists that you shouldn't let your hair down for at least a year or so. That should be enough time to figure out who is trustworthy and who isn't.
Can you rent before you buy? Might not be a bad idea before committing to living here.

Millsboro is a nice average little town. There's nothing special about it that would tell an average person "I gotta live here". It is Sussex County so there is a bit of the good ole boy mentality going on but the thing about the bank helping themselves to the safety deposit box is a bit over the top. It's not 1950's Mayberry. We had accounts with Wilmington Trust and County Bank with safety deposit boxes in both and were always treated professionally...and we were not locals.

I remember reading a few years ago about an indian festival in Millsboro but have not been able to find out anything about this.
Anyone know anything about this or the history of indians in this town.

Hi elizamary, It's a big Pow-Wow in September around the first or second weekend after Labor Day. I've been to a few of them. Lots of venders selling their wares; turquise jewerly, etc. etc. They do their native dances in costume. Best part is the wagon ride into the woods to the festivities and the fried bread and succatash. The indians come from all over the US; lots travel the circuit for the Pow-Wows. That area of Oak Orchard and Millsboro were/are the Nanticoke Indians.
