Kent County
I'd like some input on Milford, Smyrna, and Dover.
1) crime
2) convenience
3) weather
4) work
Rural, city, suburbs?
and anything else.

Dover
1. Pretty much fine as long as your not staying near the Divison/Grovernors area within two blocks west. Anywhere else in Dover is fine.
2. Well we have rt 13 which basically has anything you would ever need within a five mile stretch it seems like. A shopping mall, two wal marts, k mart, target, WaWa, Best Buy, Acme, etc...
3. Weather is great. Summer gets pretty humid, not really a dry heat too much. Fall is beautiful, winter it gets chilly but snow is never really an issue, spring sees a lot of rain but its still decent. You get your fill of all four seasons here
4. IDK I go to school, but last semester I had three jobs so...work is there but of course my jobs werent that professional
Dover is not really a large city. Only 30,000 people. I lived in small town about 15 minutes away towards the Maryland border and I could easily get to anything I wanted quickly. I went to DSU and it was an easy commute so living in the burbs or rural area isnt bad.
Any more questions let me know.

I appreciate it, that's very helpful. Do you consider that area to have plenty to do or is it boring? Is there an actual downtown area? Are the ppl friendly? Are there parks around? How far from the beach? How far from the mountains? I like the idea of RT13 with all the businesses. I don't know if you'll know the answer to this question, but are there decent, reasonably prices homes and neighborhoods by Rt 13? Any specific zip codes to look at?

You can check city data for statistics. Go to the home page on City Data....Not city data forum but he home page.
Type in the zip code or city and town...you will get all kinds of information.
My two cents. We moved from Northeast philly and believe me this is a big difference......in a good way.
Our news on Delmarva is not as much about crime, rapes, murders as the stations in Philly.
I live in Magnoli, 10 minutes south of Dover and feel very safe.

I can definately relate to you. My DH is from NE Philly and it's horrible. I don't want anything close to that. I don't like row homes either. Are the houses priced decent in you area? Thanks for the help!

Hi Beckycat.
they have a few row homes in this area but their called Carriage houses. Just a fancy name for row homes.
I would definately say homes ARE priced decent in this area. Much more so than PA or other states we looked into.
Property tax is low as well.
my guess is, your looking for a community that is not 55+. There are many too choose from......really. Nice ones too with beautiful large homes and some have pools.
Chestnut Ridge, Lacrosse at Johnathans landing, Ryland homes, Irish hill and many many more.
Shopping in the magnolia area is also pretty convient. A lot of stores all the way up route 13 past dover.
WE are 401 minutes from the beaches......which is really nice.
As far as Jobs, We are retired and have not looked. I really don't think jobs are plentyfull anywhere at the moment.
As far as schools, I do know Ceasar Rodney is a good school district and has a great program for autisic children. one of our posters, MaryCH would know more about this department.
Good luck to you

Thanks for the help. Is it reasonable to say that you can find a decent home in the low $100's? No, not for over 55 and not a mobile home.

Caesar Rodney is where I went to high school and I loved it! Not sure how old you are or if you have kids or anything but as far as nightlife I can give you plenty of answers on that issue. If you have any questions on nightlife or culture I can help you but as far as house prices...no idea as I lived with my parents the whole time I lived there
But as for some of your questions--
To the beach...About 30-45 minutes to the beginning of the beaches in good traffic so its not bad at all
To the mountains...Ahh, you have got western Maryland and then up north in PA. Last time I drove to the Poconos to snowboard it was about 2.5 hours I believe
Parks...this is really something we lack. You have silver lake in Dover which is ok to take a run or fish. Killonds pond right outside of Felton has a waterpark and a large park and lake which is pretty cool.
Nightlife...Dover Downs and gamble a little, Bubbas and Loockerman exchange are were I usually hang out. People are usually friendly everywhere here. There are no real upidity attitudes or people who think they are too good for you from what I have seen
After being in DE for my whole life im living in St. Louis for 6 months so its obvioulsy a little different here but I really miss DE.
