Hi everyone:

I am moving to DE in mid-august from VT and was wondering about apartments. I have read some of the post on moving from prior threads. However, I want to obtain as much information as possible. What are the safest apartment complexes/ neighborhoods to reside in city? I would like something quiet since I will be a full-time graduate student. My price range is from a $1000-1500 per month. Has anyone heard any reviews on the Reserve apartment complex? How safe is its location? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

for that amount of money, you could rent a townhouse or a condo in a residential neighborhood where it is generally very quiet and stay away from the partying under-grads that make a mess of most complexes in Newark

When searching for a rental, look in zip codes 19711 or 19717 to get Newark town. 19702, 19713, 19716 are outskirts but in the general area (just not in the incorporated town) - if you have a car, you would be 10-15 minutes from most spots on campus

sorry I can't help with specific complexes but hopefully gave you some information to start with

Hi Phlydude:

Thanks for the response and I appreciate the information. There are a couple of places that I am considering but there have been mixed reviews.

What is everyones opinion on the following places:

St. Andrews
Buckingham Place
Home Properties
Schoolbed Apartments
Westknoll
Southgate

Thanks in advance for the response!

I only know of 2 of the complexes you listed there...

St Andrews is up the street from me in Bear/Glasgow on Rt 40 - it is a mix of apartments and rental townhouses - seems decent and clean

School Bell is on Rt 7 just by Rt 273 about 6-8 miles from Newark town (Rt 273 turns into Main St in Newark where most of the university class areas are within 3 blocks) - I looked at them when they were built back in the late 90's early 00's and they seemed nice - you can see them by Rt 1 so if you do decide to stay there, keep away from the Rt 1 side as traffic there can be busy (and you will hear the noise).

Hi Phlydude:

Thanks again for your response. I will definitely take a closer look at these complexes.

Is anyone familiar with Pine Valley Apartments and Stonegate Apartments?

My daughter, also an incoming grad student at U Del, has recently committed to an apartment at The Reserve. Her understanding is that the complex (new construction) will have mainly young professionals and grad students as residents. She was told that you want to be somewhat (a few miles) away from the campus area to avoid the noisy undergrad party scene. Anyhow, the Reserve does have a quiet hours policy, which she hopes will be enforced.

I also am considering a town home or renting a house. Does anyone have any suggestions of areas to avoid? Thanks.

Hi Katla
Stonegate is run by a high quaility property management co.
It's as safe as any other apartment complex. I'm assuming you
haven't moved here yet, but worth looking at when you do.
