It so happens that I am from India & have been living in Newark area since 1982. I applaud you for using this forum. I assume that your querries are more from a "peace of mind" perspective and to making sure that you choose a location that does not make you or your relatives in India wonder as to what god forsaken place this Newark, Delaware area could be !!(LOL)

Like DrJef wrote, please make sure that you have a definite (almost guaranteed) job situation. And your other valid concerns RE: safe area to live, enough people who hail from India (for initial social, cultural and/or safety network), Temple would be fairly easy to satisfy.

Delaware is probably the best state to move to (I have been here since 1968) from many perspectives. Only thing it is missing is the big city (I hail from Mumbai) aura but there are several cities e.g. NYC, Wash. DC, Baltimore, and Philly and all they have to offer - within 2.5 hr driving distance.

From the responses you have got so far you know this is a friendly area with people with genuine desire to help new comers. If you make a decision to come here please contact me and I will be glad to help you & your hubby settle in.

Hi Armx...thankyou for your response...I could not check the site for quite some time as I was out of station. But really happy to receive your response. Our moving to Newark is almost confirmed...however we still have hurdles like interviews, VISA & all those procedure to happen. So, if everything goes well ..we will be coming over in early part of 09. I understand that its not a big city...but I understand every oppurtunity comes in with its advantages & disadvantages:-))
I am sure if we come over we will have to get used to it.
I completely agree with you, this forum is really great & it builds so much of trust among people. Thank you again...if we are coming, I shall surely contact you for any help required. Thanks Again. Have a wonderful New Year, Take Care:-)

Happy New year to you and your family!!

If it makes sense you may want your better half (lol) to get in the fray on the forum and he can manage to get many things accomplished from Texas (Houston, if I remember correctly) before you actually come to Newark....Just a proactive suggestion.... Do what you decide is best for you two.

Hi Armx..Hope your New Year Celebrations were great. I actually didnt understand much from the statement made in your comments (sorry about that). My Hubby stayed in Houston for sometime in the past. What can we get accomplished from Houston before coming to Newark?

We thought you meant your husband is currently living in Houston. Not the case?

That makes two of us, Doctorjef! As you can see Twinkle, we thought your husband is currently in Houston and you are taking initiative in exploring the possibilities in Newark from India.

I hope that makes it clear to you, now.

So have you started the tortuous process of passport, umpteen visits to Counsular office for paper work and visa ? Good luck to you on obtaining the visa with minimal headaches.

Oh you guys got me wrong:-)
My Husband had been to Houston in the past for around 6months, he was sent by the company for a project out there.
He is back in India & we both have been working in the same company, he has again got an oppurtunity from the company this time for a complete relocation to Newark.
No Armx, the procedures have not yet started...but we are expecting that it would start next week & since it would be through the company we are assuming the procedures wont be that torturous:-)
Any Idea, how good is a H1B Visa? I guess thats what he is gonna get.
