Having grown up in Hockessin.

Then moving to Boston, then NJ, then Las Vegas, then SF now, and heading back to Vegas in a couple of months.

I can't help but say, "I wish I was back in Hockesssin, DE"

With 2 year old and planning for another one next year, I just can't imagine myself or my family sticking it out in Vegas too long.

I just wish the darned job market doesn't take too long to recover.

OTOH and quite seriously speaking, perhaps you should think in terms of going forward in your life rather than looking backwards. Hockessin isn't nirvana.

Sometimes home isn't so much the location but family and familiarity. For my husband and I, our parents and siblings no longer live where we grew up and most of our friends either left the area or we weren't close enough to stay in touch with them. Therefore, no reason to pine for "home". Our home is where we are now with our own family. That said, I've been to Las Vegas and can certainly understand wanting to move back in this direction from there!

Home is where the heart is. . .Hockessin is still a very nice quaint affordable town to live in and call home. Close to everything (culturally), yet far away (hustle and bustle), centrally located, i.e., NYC, Philadelphia, and DC (cultural meccas) And so yes, you can have your cake and eat it too.

The OP may be gone now, but should know that Delaware is not the same as maybe he/she remembers it. It has steadily changed over the years, grown for the good, and for the not-so-good. But, nothing stays the same, as we know. As much as I travel the state on a daily basis, I always see new businesses and new housing developments I hadn't seen before. Usual landmarks I'm accustomed to see, are now gone - Like the old farmhouse at the Delaware City/Rte. 13 traffic light, like the old Smyrna Diner which moved and now looks like every other restaurant in the area, like the picturesque horse farm in Odessa. Everything's different, the people and the landscape. Time moves on.

Very true! We left Kent Co in 1982, went back for a visit in the late 90's, big difference!

Very true toobusytoday. Altho I have no family left in DE but many friends, I love the familiarity of Kent Co, altho alot has changed, there is also alot that remains the same and memeories of "how it was", for example every house I lived in is still the same, I miss the beautiful drive up N State St with those beautiful old trees providing a canopy, Governors Av crossing Silver Lake, the donut shop at 13 and Kings Hwy, the Hollywood Diner, the old Blue Hen Mall, Kitts Hummock, the drive up DE 9, the ride on Bay Rd along DAFB and seeing those huge planes, the crooked road along the river from Lebanon to hwy 10, Amish people and buggys, Spences Bazaar, Magnolia, Little Heaven, oh man I gotta get back "home" !
Lived in FL since 1982 and still consider KentCo home, is that sick?
Family issues keep me in FL for now but I'm heading home ASAP!
