Depends on what you like. The Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington has the largest collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings outside of Britain, and there is also currently the collection of Victorian paintings from the Royal Holloway (a college in greater London) on exhibit there. The male dance troop called Rockin' the Ballet is doing performances at the Dupont Theatre on Fri and Sat nights and Sun afternoon. The Dupont mansions of Winterthur with its extensive gardens and Hagley with its large 19th Century industrial grounds are worth seeing, as is Nemours if that has opened back up for the season (Nemours requires advance reservations). Those are my initial ideas. I'd also advise driving around the areas north of Wilmington on the back roads of Montchanin, Greenville and Centreville -- beautiful rolling countryside, deep forests, the Brandywine River.

If you give us some idea of what you're into, maybe we can come up with other suggestions.

doctorjef has listed some of our favorites and, as he says, if you're more specific about your enthusiasms and areas of interest, perhaps people will contribute more ideas.

I think this weekend is supposed to be lovely, so Lewes and Rehoboth beckon. The crowds are already picking up on sunny weekends in Rehoboth, and the joint is jumpin'. More stores and restaurants open off-season each year, it seems to us.

If you'd like to be outdoors near a lovely lake, there's a pleasant walk through the woods around Killens Pond. (South of Dover.) If you're a birder, Bombay Hook (near Leipsic, a little north east of Dover) is a place you'd want to head, and you will find walks through woods to observation towers, or on a boardwalk through the (still mosquito-free for now) saltmarsh.

Dover has its limitations, but there are several museums. My favorite, worth some time, is the Biggs. Check online, and see if it fits your interests.

Out of time for now. Hope you have a good weekend of exploration.

One thing, dover is in the middle of interest not far.

We live 10 mins south of Dover......
1/2 hour from beach
1 hour from the eastern shore
1 1/2 from philly
1 hour from the brandywine area which is rich in culture and gardens
Slots 15 mins south
Dover downs 15 mins north
Movies,
Bowling
Shows..........Visited the Schwartz theater Friday for the Cole porter show....Fabulous.
There is so much to do so little time to do it all!!

I am new to this and my eyes' are tearing from all the reading I've been doing. We were visiting Southern Meadows this past weekend and we were impressed. We are just starting to look at Delaware as a new retirement home. Are you still as happy about your move as you noted in earlier posts? We would be moving from Pa. Still have a lot of questions to get answered.
thanks

Hi retired.

I live in Southern meadows and have for 2 years now. We also moved from PA (phila. area).
No regrets whatsoever about our move to DE and choice of community.
Very happy with our choice. Of course that depends on your particular situation.
Moving away from the kids, living in a rural area where you need a car or maybe you don't want to lease the land. There are many personal factors to consider.
We love it and have made a ton of friends. Always something to do or not do. Half hour from the beach which is a nice day trip.
It is the lifestyle I dreamed of but never thought possible. And now we life our dream.
The homes are soooo easy to take care of and you get 5 models to choose from.
Anything else I can help you with, just give a hollar or send a Direct message.
