Default Dover Airforce Base Open house this weekend

A real treat . I'm just sorry I didn't know about this sooner. We saw the Thunderbirds from the end of our street when the show was here three years ago. What a thrill!!!!!

Dover Air Force Base - Open House

A great event to celebrate with Dads on Father's Day weekend. Wanted also to let visitors and newcomers to the area know that, nope it's not an invasion. It's the airshow !!!!!

We have been waiting for the open house and airshow; our son is quite fascinated with all things airplanes! Right now, it is raining, and I suppose the demonstrations have been grounded today. Hopefully, the weather will clear for Sunday.

Charley, as far as I know, the open house and airshow is every other year (at least that is what our old neighbors told me), so you have an extra year to mend! And PA, I bet you've had a wonderful view from your yard... perhaps even better than on base!

Take care everyone! Mary

Hi Mary,

Glad to hear from you. I've been looking for this event since our first summer here which was 3 years ago. We were home yesterday when the Thunderbirds were practicing. It was incredible!! I grabbed my camera and took several shots but those guys were so fast that all I captured were the clouds. Hubby is working tomorrow so glad he had a glimpse yesterday. Enjoy with your crew. May be a break in the weather tomorrow... I hope ..

Charley, Mary, From Pa and others
Hi and happy Fathers day to all the Dads.

The air show is exciting and so close to our home. We saw them practicing Friday too.

Yesterday a few of us started out for the show a little after nine when the skys opened. We took it as sign to go home and we did.
Really wanted to go today but I have another committment.
If they fly today, I may check the friendly skies.

I hope your right Mary and I willl look forward to the air show next year.

The Open House opens at noon today. Thunderbirds will be last.

We went over after the rain yesterday afternoon and were able to catch two performances but severe weather from Baltimore ended the show early for the day.

All acts are scheduled to perform today but the way this wacky weather has been lately, who knows. It is overcast now but could have a tremendous downpour or full sun and blue skies 10 minutes from now.

Well, we drove over to the Blue Hen Mall at around 1:15 today --- that's where you park to get a shuttle to the base. The line was sooooo long; all around the mall. At around 1:45 they came around and said that the base was so full of people already that the 2:00 shuttle bus would be the last one. There were hundreds of people still in line --- we were about half way back and they told us we were a 30-45 minute wait so we had no chance. We'll try again next year.

What a darn shame. The lot was almost full when I arrived today so I turned around and went S. on Rt. 1. Had a great view from the side of the road. One of the Thunderbirds went right over my head. They are faster than sound so I didn't even see him 'till he was right there. Loads of tailgaters there. I hope you got to see some of the action anyway.
