Default Living In Newark, DE Commuting to Philadelphia

Does any one know the commute time by public transportation living in Newark, DE and going into Philly everyday for work. This is something I'm considering doing if the right job offer comes in from Philly they appear to pay more than certain parts of Delaware. I don't mind commuting especially since I presently live in NY and all we do is commute out here by public transportation. I just want to know what type of public transportation is available to me and how much of a hike it will be.

Thank You!

At rush hours SEPTA runs R-2 train between Newark & Philly.

But why would you want to live in Newark which is the farthest point from philly along the RR system. You will have better options if you lived near Wilmington and commuted from there....just a question out of curiosity!!

"amtrack" would probably not be "driving" - The usual route is to take a bus or walk to the train station in Newark and then take the Septa. From my door in Newark to the airport or downtown takes 3 hours. I have made this trip a few times recently (unfortunately). Also keep in mind that the train to Newark does not run on nights or weekends. You can take a bus from Newark to the next stop, Wilmington - but that bus does not run on Sundays. Public transportation to/from Newark is very sporadic.

the commute on the R-2 line is about 1 hour, 10 minutes (getting on at Newark ensures you have a seat on that long train ride) find the info on the R-2 line on septa.org and select regional rail

driving, you might be able to do it in 45 minutes or so (but then you'd have to pay for parking)

I drive from Newark to Newtown (not Square) and I do it in about 1.25 hours on most days.

The dirty little SEPTA secret is the fair goes up (a lot) when they cross the DE state line. To get a break a lot of people drive to the last station in Pa and catch the train there. The last I knew Antrak honored the SEPTA monthly pass, so you could catch the express out of 30th St Station directly to Wilmington. This really came in handy after hours when the R2 stopped running.
