State Fair
What do people who have been think of the DE State Fair? If you've been to other state's fairs, how would you compare DE's to other state's fairs? I'm not really into the midway stuff and I've noticed that all the livestock judging takes place early in the morning when we couldn't be there. Are the livestock and other agricultural areas accessible to fair-goers at other times of the day? Is the crowd excessively sleezy? I'm thinking of the State Fair as an interesting piece of Americana to check out with our friend from London (though he's originally from South Africa).

It's been a long time but the non country music and the demolition derby were fun.

State Fair
I Love the Fair. I don't look at it as an "interesting piece of Americana"....I look at it as a fun time, petting the animals, the mooing sounds of the cows, the baaaas of the sheep, looking at the exhibits, the smells, (midway or barns, doesn't matter, it's the fair. Doesn't matter to me when the judging takes place. I like to walk through the barns and see the kids taking care of their animals and the love they show for these animals. And then there's the food..........it just tastes extra good at a fair. I'm not their to judge the people; who cares. We are all at the fair to have a fun day enjoying an experience that only happens once a year. The exhibitors and farmers have put a lot of hard work in for this event and I thank them for giving me the opportunity to see what they have done. I Love the Fair.

Thanks, CaroleM -- I take it then that you can see the livestock just about anytime.
Much of DE generally seems interesting Americana to me, but maybe that comes from living outside the USA and then moving back to an entirely different state.

Yes, you can walk through all the barns. This way you have "close-ups"...LOL. Most of the farm people wil let you pet the cows, pigs, etc. There is usually a new born calf and a litter of little piglets at the fair. Also you will get to see HUGE hogs. Don't wear good shoes.........LOL

We usually go for an evening as well. It's a lot of fun.....besides the concerts there are other entertainers (free) each night in various tents, such as jugglers, comedians, etc. It is definitely an interesting piece of Americana! As comparisons go, we have been to the state fairs in PA and NJ and this is much better I think......more easygoing, not as forced or commercial.

This will be the first time in four years that we will not be visiting Delaware during the time that the State Fair is open. My wife and I do enjoy visiting the fair, talking to the folks at the various exhibits and of course, eating fair food. We always found that this fair really does a nice job of highlighting many of the things that makes Delaware a special place. Hopefully next year, we'll be able to return and enjoy it once again. For any who decide to go - have a great time!

Also.......If you get too hot........you can always duck in the casiono to get home but bring your luck with ya.
We didn't go last year cuz it was sweltering. Year before I thought it was good. Although I laughed at the worlds smallest horse. You pay to see it. I was shocked. I told the guy....."thats not that small".
I guess I was expecting something the size of grasshopper. LOL!
the state fair is lot of fun Just hope it's not that hot. That is the big draw back for me.
