Smile Lots of info to go over when I get home!

Charley: I was nearby so did stop in at Champions Club. It is gorgeous and looks like it will be a great place to live. Like heaven to me - just birds chirping as background "noise". Also stopped in at Roesville and it looked great and the clubhouse and pool are about to be built. Longacre Village is off my list for now, though the location is great. I have lots of packets to go thru and will pass them on to a former co-worker who is about to retire and is considering Delaware, too, as their 2 children have both relocated to Maryland.

Thanks rdlr for the tip about 107.1 - just the kind of music I like. Also found 92.1 WBLT which is also oldies. And I saw a roadside sign down in Sussex County yesterday advertising crabs, other seafood and muskrats, so I realized people down here really do eat muskrat. Stopped in at Harrington briefly on my way south and it is very nice and a good size, not too big or small. I was at Southern Meadows last time here, so did not stop in again, but I would rather avoid land-lease. Finally, of all the places I looked at, Barclay Farms had the most people in the clubhouse: ladies playing some kind of game, men playing cards, a potluck lunch going on, lots of people laughing and talking to each other, and so on. At Nobles Pond there was not a soul in that huge clubhouse.

Thanks everyone for all the info and help. Happy spring to all of you. And Charley and Marlene, congratulations on your beautiful home and I hope every minute there is happy for both of you. I hope the best years of your life are ahead of you both!

Yes, the weather has been great for my visit - flowers out, trees in bloom, warm sun. What more could I ask for?

Default Beautiful Sight!

Yesterday, while riding south on Rt. 13 near Felton, we saw a beautiful sight. We're thinking this blimp (dirigible) was headed towards Rt. 50.

Default Strawberries Almost Done

I've been picking strawberries for a couple weeks, every chance I get. We've been eating strawberries 3 x day, I froze some, and made strawberry jam which I intend to exhibit at the Delaware State Fair. Since I'm so close to the farm patches, I can be there, pick, and be back home in 45-50 minutes. Today, and Saturday, I picked at Bobola's, on Rt. 8 (Halltown Rd.) Dover. Much cheaper, and a shorter walk to the patch. I started out at Fifer's when the berries first came on. Very expensive there, as compared to Bobola's. Today, the berries are slightly mushy because of the rains, but the berries are still good size. I'm thinking this week will be the last of the picking days.

If anybody's thinking about picking, time is getting short.

Picked some on my parents' farm on Mother's Day. Hoping there are still plenty when I visit on Sunday. My only complaint is I got a spotty rash on my arms from the leaves, but it went away within a few hours.

Parsons Farm in Dagsboro has pick-your-own strawberries if anybody wants good, cheap strawberries in southern Sussex.

Hmmm....a rash. Well, these allergies seem to show up any time in our lives. I guess it was a "short term" one. What about chiggers? My husband seems to get those in tall grass. I've never had them, though.

On the west side of Rt. 13 (west of Dover, Camden, & Wyoming areas) Amish go door to door selling strawberries.

My son had chiggers before; he claims they jumped on him while riding his bike through tall grass. Pretty nasty buggers, they are--he itched constantly and had red dots all over his calves. Hope they never find me!

We have only had them in my family twice in the 20 some years of living in slower lower. That was 2 times too many.

Just wondering how much you're paying for PYO strawberries? I'm a few hours north of you all and I've been picking my own for just the last week but am thinking of going to the PYO place for quantity if I can guess a few hours of clear skies. I always think of picking strawberries around the time that school ends, which is usually mid-June so it seems weird to be picking now in mid May!
