We are looking at a house within the town limits of Newark. We are accustomed to Delmarva utilities, and I'm just wondering if anyone here has their power & gas supplied by Newark, and if you can give me a little info about it.... is it terribly expensive?

Also, I guess water also is supplied by the city. Is this billed quarterly, like Artesian does?

Thanks for any help. Utilities take such a big bite out of the budget these days... we can't ignore them!

Since nobody has answered I will attempt to give you my perspective. Whether that ends being factual remains to be seen.(lol)

Traditiionally, City of Newark buys power from DP&L and resells to the citizens, yet their rates are lower than what DP&L charges.

To give this notion of mine a reality check what you can do is ask your agent to find out the consumption and/or bills for the property under consideration to buy. The seller should be willing to help in that endevor.

Here is a .pdf with a rate chart in it for usage fees

Here is the link to all the public services (but I don't see anything for the gas service)

In addition to utilities, remember about the extra .75% transfer tax for buying in an incorporated area
