Were in Slaughter Beach, I love the beauty of the bay/ocean. The closeness to the Boardwalk and shopping.
I hate the wind and the traffic.

I loved DE when I lived there. Was in Dover on the border of Smyrna for 5 yrs. I miss the options to go to the city (Philly) or to the beach at a whim. I really wish we could move back someday. The wind is the only thing I don't miss. I laugh now when it gets windy here in NE TN....I tell people if you can still open your car door without getting slammed on your a$$ then it ain't windy! :-)

I live in Sussex County, I hate Delaware due to the fact that everyone I run into seems to have a cocaine problem.

^^^^ Maybe you are just hanging around the wrong crowd. Thats the first time I have ever heard that. I love Delaware for the ease of getting to Philly, Baltimore, etc. Also going to the beach in the summer is awesome. People from other areas under rate our beaches so much. I live in Dover so the nightlife isnt great but I just love the area

I just moved to Delaware and so far I love the school district and I love the people.
I am very unhappy that there is no small town feel or good recreation dept. For instance we technically live in Newark, but across the street is Bear and my kids go to school in Middletown. Our neighborhood is great, but I do not feel like I have a great sense of town. I want my kids to play on sport's teams in their town. They tell me we are not part of The city of Newark, but we don't live in Middletown either.

Seeking advice on Delaware
Hi! I'm new to City-Data.com so bear with me. There is a possibility that our family will be relocating to Delaware and I've never been there.
I'm looking for an area with good schools (we have a 9-year-old daught) and a friendly neighborhood.
Can anyone recommend some communities that are desireable and also places to stay away from?
Many thanks,
Jean

There's many places that would fit your criteria. It also depends on your price range (?) and what you're looking for (house, townhouse, property). Where (city) would you be working, how long a commute do you want? Wouldnt' move w/o a job though. Am not up on schools but there's many posts about them, you can do a search, probably the best thing to do would be to come visit, once you narrow it down a bit. HTH

Agreed with honeycrisp. Theres many different areas to choose from and many excellent school districts. Visiting is your best bet. I personally graduated from Caesar Rodney High School and my sister goes to one of the districts middle schools. I enjoyed my time there and she is doing well. Look into the Camden/Magnolia areas

I really like Middletown, I wish we could have moved there, but it would have added 15 min to my husband's commute. We are still in Appo school district. I definitily recommend Middletown, it was a little cheaper than Newark/Bear too.
