thinking about a move to DE
Hi,
My husband and I (over 55) are thinking of a move from MD to DE. We will be living on a modest retirement income soon so price is a factor. It will also be a scaled down home move as we now live in a 3300 sq ft place; however, it is fine as long as we have over 1500 sq ft to continue to stay married!!
We also want a friendly community with some activities in or not far away.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi there,
we live in Middletown, DE and if you are looking for a town with a strong community, a little history (founded in the late 1800), lots of social life, even a market square, everything you need ... you should consider to drive by and take a look.
there is no grocery shopping without meeting (and chatting with) people I know - even if there live around 8000 people.
As far as I know 'Spring Mill' is a 55+ development, but we also have nice neighborhoods with poeple of all ages.
and it takes you 3 miles to got MD
good luck !

Heritage Shores in Bridgeville DE, is a new 55+ older community with a golf course and an active community. The surrounding areas are starting to build up and the beach is only 40 minutes away. Also if you ever wanted to go to DC, or Philly for any reason you are there in less than two hours. Bridgeville will still give you the small town feel with lovely hospitality. It is definitely worth a look!

looking to settle in DE (over 55 communities)
Thanks for the replies.
We looked at Roseville and Nobles Pond. Anyone have comments about these two other than the land lease business? Also, anyone know about Layton Builders in Camden, DE?
Thanks.

Roesville is not land lease. There are extensive conversations about Roesville, Nobles Pond and the other 55+ communities here:

I love living in the southern most part of the state. There are many small communities here and all are very nice. As far as Sussex County goes the further east the more the cost goes up. I'd look at the state first and see which county you would prefer then ask. It's very different on the southern end than the northern.

Can you tell me where Bridgeville is located? We would love to be close to Md. and Va. since our kids live in both states.

Just go to google.com, write in Bridgeville DE, click on Maps and it should bring it right up, I use Google all the time to find map info, am not familiar w/ most of DE at all. It's a huge help. Here's a link (hope it works!). You can move the bar on the right up or down to see it in relation to other big cities and even the state of DE. Anyway it looks fairly close to MD, in the lower 2/3 of DE (not a great description, LOL, check it out on the map)
