Default Wilmington

ATLGAL,

Whatever you do, do not live in the City of WIlmington or anywhere immediately south of it. Its a wretched place. Live only in North wilmington or Newark if you must live in DE. I recommend you live in SE PA and only commute to work. Trader joes is on the DE/PA border near Rte 202. You're coming from a first class city and going to a last class use to be a/wannabe a city again. Its welcome sign slogan says it all, "Wilmington a place where you can be somebody" The implication being that all the current inhabitants are nobodies, which more or less is the case.

I totally agree! Been there done that and bought the house. Now having said that my house and some other very nice ones are for sale in SE PA. We are relocating occupationally. I love my house wish I could pick it up and move it. My neighbors are spectacular people. When you need a ride or a helping hand they never falter. It is so nice and quiet here. Trader Joes and Wegmans are trips I make often.

There is both a Pathmark and Shoprite in Delaware. Both supermarkets are top quality, value supermarkets. Only at Pathmark can you score with a 24 pack of Poland Spring water for $2.99. Their prices completely blow Wal Mart out of the water.

If you do not shop at Path Mark or Shop Rite in the NE corridor you are bleeding money.

It is amazing how many people in City-Data post about TJ's when looking for a new city. I have been a TJ shopper for over 10 years. I am looking to leave CA and I will only look at areas that have a TJ. Whole Foods not so much. WAYYYY overpriced! You can find most of their products at other stores for much less. TJ's rules!

I heard Whole Foods is trying to put a store in at the corner of 202 and Naaman's. I hope they get the approvals.

While Delaware does not have the chain store Whole Foods, there is a Trader Joe's on Rt 202 just North of Wilmington. There used to be a local company in the same style called Food Source but not anymore, last one of those is in Bryn Mawr, PA.

I shop a lot at Janssen's on Rt 52 in Greenville Delaware (Welcome to Janssen's Fine Foods) which has an excellent selection of fine foods. I personally love their cheese selection. They have high quality culinary items like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's has but with the extra benefit that they are local and locally owned.

O.K. I'll admit it. I've never been to a Trader Joe's. Would that be a bulk foods store? If so, I do that type of shopping in Dover at Byler's Country Store. Here's the link: Welcome to Byler's Country Store

Okay..............I have been to Bylers and it is a great place. A load of healthy grains. Yum.......
I do eat healthy but must admit I failed miserably this week. Fried Chicken, Stomboli and a host of other fattening stuff and no excersise. Getting ready to put the fat on for the winter.

Traders Joes has a load of healthy foods. I'm from Philly and we would go to the one in Jenkintown. I would mainly go there for the salt or salt free variety of nuts and dried fruits.
They had every nut imaginable......shelled, salt free, salt and in the shell.
Dried Papaya, and all sorts of dried fruits you can not get in a regular super.
Plus a lot of different foods that you dont' see in a reg super.
But,
Since we have been here, I found the Acme on route 13 by Dover to have healthy stuff. A variety of nuts and steel cut oat meal. So If I can't find it then I go to Bylers.
Anyone hear of Haas meat market. Not far from Bylers and the meat is fantastic.

hey Eliza.... did you ever hear of Produce Junction while you were in Philly?
It's the only place I really miss since moving here. Most veggies were a buck a bag. I'll stop when I visit PA and get 5 lbs of gold potatoes, green, yellow or red peppers, red or bermuda onions, green beans, salad mix, cauliflower, brocolli, sweet potatoes, apples, grapes, blueberries, bananas, (my list for Thanksgiving dinner),mushrooms, celery, parsley, cherry tomatoes,( did I miss anything?) All this for under $20. Sizeable quantities also, I usually share with my family.

Oh and the cut flowers are out outstanding. I always had flowers in my home in PA. Sometimes you can get 2 dozen long stem roses for $6.!!!!!
I get all my annuals and perennials there in the spring too. They also have seasonal decorations galore.

Anyway, I have been pleading with them to come to DE. They are expanding in PA but not here yet.
