we just purchased in middletown and the posts are some what disheartening. . .they have a top rated school district (if not THE top in the state) and a small town feel with modern convenience. . .ultimately it's all what you're looking for

The Middletown area is growing quickly. I noticed last week many new restaurants that I did not see in my previous trip to the area, including two barbeque places! From what I've heard from the people who have moved into Springmill (a 55+ community) is that they are very happy with the area.

Default dad lives there

Hi
My dad moved there about 2yrs ago. He was over on 301 in an over 55 comm. but didnt like it. Folks both work in middletown and liked the small town feel. they moved to Lakeside just off of 71. very nice area and nice homes. The intersection of 299 & 71 is very congested. 1 lane traffic all over. But it appears to me to be nice and they like it. But they are all also well over 60.

we were there yesterday for our pre-construction meeting, granted day traffic is a bit much but nothing compared to the 1.5 hour commute I have in Jersey

nancy361 - did you end up buying yet - and if so what did you settle on?

Oh gosh NO... we havent even gotten that far yet.. LOL..

You are building in lakeside? it is very nice over there. my dad is right on lakeside dr . nice streets and homes, but way to much for our pocketbook...

ANother poster had told me that with my price range 175 and less if that... we wouldnt get much and if so it wouldnt be in a decent area.
I have seen some listings in newark areas for less then that price and they were around the college area or just outside of it...

Wow, it amazes me that people who aren't from Middletown are so quick to judge. I grew up there. I didn't move out of there until I was 28. I'm now 32 and the only reason why I left was because I got married to a man from Baltimore City, MD. If I had my way, I would move back there in a heartbeat! The people are friendly, there's lots to do, there's a beautiful vaudevillian theatre right on Main Street (although you might want to wait a few months before going to see it. They are having a ceiling issue right now) and the education that your children will get is wonderful. There are several private schools there as well as public.
Who am I to tell someone to move there /? You should always research an area before you move to it. If anyone has any questions about Middletown, feel free to ask.

Jazzy,
My family and I currently live in Wilmington, but are considering Middletown a possibility next year when we move. Can you tell me how developments like parkside and the areas around frog hollow are perceived by the locals. I imagine that do to the growth the town has experienced over the last few years there may soon me more outsiders than insiders. Thanks for your opinions.

We are moving to Middletown later this year (aug '08) and did allot of research before hand. We know they have great schools and it is a very up/coming area. What I am concerned about is the road expansion work they are planning to do on Levels Rd & Church Rd - this is very close to where we purchased and I'm concerned about the impact it will have . . .if you know anything about it please let me know. Thnx

The negatives aspects of living in Middletown is Rt 299/Rt 71 traffic on the weekends. The positives are a Great Dutch Market, Willey Farms, major grocery stores, you can buy underwear and socks now that Kohl's opened, SuperWal-Mart is on the way and rumors are Target might be coming too. All the necessities of life, a smaller town feel, great public schools and very friendly neighborhoods. If you want fine dining and nightlife it ain't here. If you want a quality place to raise your family, this is as good a place as you'll find.
