Default Anyone from Middletown, Delaware?

Anyone from Middletown Delaware. I am considering relocating my family there. I am relocating from Montgomery County PA - which I love, but I am hoping I'll love Middletown just as much. I have a 5 year old and twins that are 15 months so I am really interested in hearing about any family activiites, events in Middletown.

Okay Middletown. Here's your chance to toot your horn!!

All information is appreciated.

Middletown is building up like mad. Schools should be crowded now or very soon, meaning taxes are going to go up. Building is unleashed so sprawl is everywhere. The local town govt does whatever it wants. Anything below the canal bridge is called slower Delaware. Go and spend a few days there because once you move it is too late. I looked at housing there and to me it's a glorified truck stop with expensive houses near it.
301 goes right through it and trucks rumble through it all the time, bringing dust dirt and dead retreads. If you are only looking to stay for a few years sure why not your house will appreciate along with the other 5000 they are building like mad. I find the whole area for me a decade away from being anything tolerable. They have a peach festival every year. There is scouts.Stores are coming along and a big Walmart fight is in play and has been for years. I think the houses are nice but do not like where they are.
Just my opinion! Come down and spend a few days there is a Hampton Inn there. It's not far from the beach so you can make it a vacation fact finding trip.

HI....I"m not familiar with Middletown so I can't really say. We just moved to DE in Feb and live in Magnolia not far from dover.

But what I wanted to tell yo u was,,,,,,,,,,I was raised in Montgomery County PA around Willow Grove and Glenside. My sister still lives there.

That has been built up through the years. Wen we first moved in 1952, it was real country. Can't say the same now.

Last year, we wanted to come down and check out the area and 55+ communities.
We Found the hotels toa be expensive but we did find a Howard Johnson in Dover that was fairly reasonable. We stayed there a couple days and went around to check out the communities.

For us it was a good move. I retired in Feb and life has been exactly how I envisioned it.

Good luck to you. The advice you got to come down and see if you like it is good advice

Good reply. I was born & raised in the MOT area. I'm glad I'm out of there. It sickens me to go down there and see the once beautiful area I remember as a child & teen.

I know quite a few people who grew up there who say they will never go back. I have to believe them since all of them could live anywhere they make enough money to. Speaks volumes.

what are you talking abou is on a distinguished road
Default Wow

I am really surprised by the replys your getting they seem really negative on the area, I think it is really nice in Middletown and in Smyrna which is a little further south. Yes there is a lot of growth there. Thanks goodness its not out of control, the schools are good and there is a new High school that will be opening with in a year. As far as the taxes going up, Delaware pays so much less than any of the states around that if they doubled they would still be at least half of the taxes any where else. Good Luck

Well that just shows to each his own. That is why it is important for a person to come and see for yourself. We all have different needs and wants. our lifestyles are not all the same. And thank God for that. Imagine if we were all alike............What a boring world this would be!!!!

to anyone looking...........Ask a zillion and one questions, do your homework and research. Most of all.....visit for a while.

Smynra is a nice area. We almost bought in Bon Ayre but decided on another area cuz we liked the house and community better.
We visited DE twice before we decided. This was not a whim. I researched, visited and ask a zillion questions. Did a lot of weighing out and thorough thought to come to the decsion we did.

She's not joking about how low our taxes and stuff are. How about just under $600 for a $199,000 house in the Smyrna/Cheswold area, or around $1,000 a year for a $225,000 house in Middletown. Homeowners insurance is also much lower. With the $199,000 house costing about $700 a year and the $225,000 house running about $900 a year. Try to find that ANYWHERE outside of Delaware.

Middletown is growing fast, but they are starting to put things in place that will improve the area drastically. If you want to have a bit more space and pay a little less for your property, go out of town to the northwest up near Summit or Bear or go the southwest to Townsend, Clayton or on the north side of Smyrna.

Middletown sits in the middle of the Appoquinimink Watershed, and if you look around we have some very beautiful views to be seen... you have to look for beauty to see it sometimes. I could show you some AMAZING photos taken right here in developments in Middletown that will show you the stunning beauty that lies all around us. In fact, the Appoquinimink River Association (Appoquinimink River Association) has just received an EPA award for one of its many great projects (the MOT Rain Garden we put in at the front of the Senior Center) and efforts to improve our local environment.

Every area has pluses and minuses, take them all in and take a GOOD look around before you make up your mind. If the in-town area doesn't suit you, go just outside the town. I've been around the world and lived in Europe for nearly 12 years, but Middletown is now my CHOSEN home, and I like it here.

Hi and welcome one6lady.
I don't know much about middletown. Just moved to De in Feb. Good to have you aboard.
I second your advice about take a good look around before you move and so on.
After traveling all over the world, you sound like a well rounded and happily adjusted person.
I'm not too familiar with Middletown except that it is really growing and developing.

I lived in Middletown a few years ago. The location is central to a lot of nearby attractions including the Arts, beaches, major shopping venues and jobs. One of the most enjoyable memories I have as a working mother is packing up the kids and catching the bus to Rehoboth and Ocean City. It costs less than $10 each and I recall watching the 4th of July fireworks riding home one year.
