Can anyone out there advise as to what goes on in Rehoboth Beach during the winter? We are looking at potential Delaware locales to relocate to....several years ago we vacationed there during the summer and loved it. Was wondering if it shuts down like most of the delmarva ocean towns do during the winter.

It doesn't actually shut down. There are plenty of nice restaurants open, and the ocean is still beautiful But it is very quiet, which is a pleasant relief for a lot of us. Late Fall, Winter, and early Spring are our favorite times to be there. The boardwalk is still under renovation, just to prepare you.

Some businesses operate on abbreviated hours, for instance only on the weekend, out of season. Some of the restaurants close up between New Year's and Valentine's Day. There seem still to be quite a few social events and activities of various types. Many business people, especially the hotel industry, have been trying to promote Rehoboth as an all-year destination. However, even as late as the first of June Rehoboth is pretty quiet, especially during the week. Things really are generally pretty quiet after Halloween until the Season gets cranked up later in June. That actually leaves only a few months of aggro with the vacation crowd, so it seems a nice combination between summertime madness and off-season tranquility. I would suggest, however, that Lewes is a more normal, permanent town (the oldest in DE actually).

The Rehoboth and Lewes business' are generally year-around. And with a large number of 2nd homes in the area there is a influx of people over Thanksgiving, etc. IMHO, if you loved the area in the summer you'll be equally in love with the spring and fall.
