Yes, Nittany Glen is built by McKee, the same builders as Spring Arbor and Springmill.
I agree about how tiring it can be to look at 55+ communities. That's why we are "screening" them now, deciding which ones we would live in, and then when the time comes, we will look at what's available in only those communities that have remained on our list.

We did that too charley. Researching, requesting and inquiring was also tiresome.
I had received a shoot load of brochures from all over Florida, Az, NJ, PA and DE.
We talked about what state we would be happy in and considered all the facts.
Then
we narrowed it down to the few within our price range.
then
Ventured out.
Understand, it was fun. We were both excited and meeting 55+ people wherever we went.
We did what you did, met people in these communities, asked questions, talked to people who where looking.
It was exhilerating and a blast.
But then you get to a point where you just want it to be over. I suppose you just get tire.
What happens is it is time!
We looked for 2 years.

Hi All.
I will report back later this weekend with as much information that is available from Nittany Glen.
I guess there will be something that will always concern us no matter where we choose to live. I guess we have to list our priorities and go from there. But, Eliza, I do know what you mean about tiring of the process. We have been investigating different places for over a year now. We have visited several places as well. I do enjoy the trips and have eliminated a few places right away. But sometimes it's just hard to sort everything out. Ron does take pictures of the models and that has helped.
I have to have faith that our research and instict and maybe blind luck will lead us to the place we are meant to live. I am so anxious and I know that can be dangerous. But time doesn't wait. I am so ready to start our new life together in a new place.
Take care,
Joycie

I am also so ready ... but time is not on my side right now. I'm already retired, but my wife still works. Based on an excellent retirement incentive, she may need to work as few as two or as many as six more years (5 years, 9 months, 7 days ... lol). We're BOTH ready to make a move, but the incentive is too good to pass up. So she works and we wait.

Well, Charley, I am not retired officially. Right now I am on sabbatical from my teaching position. But, I am looking into retirement and that's the key factor as to our timing. I have no figures yet as to what my monthly income would be due to the fact that I am buying back substitute time. The state is nearly 3 years behind in their paperwork. I applied two and a half years ago with all of my documentation and they just keep saying that they are working on it. Sigh. I will never make it to full retirement. In PA you have to work 35 years to get full retirement. Life is too short. Ron and I know that all too well. We are both widowed. My husband died suddenly. Ron's wife had been ill. We are so thankful that we were brought together by fate or the powers that be. We are both anxious to start " our" life together in the here and now but we will take our spouses with us in our hearts.
Ron is working now but the pay isn't great. He has benefits and that is so important. I guess we are waiting for the pieces to fall into place. I believe they will.

It's the benefits that are causing us to wait ... but with good reason. The retirement incentive includes free medical/dental/pharmaceutical benefits for life for both of us. If you calculate what that would actually cost us if we were to pay for it, it's easy to see why we're waiting.
I only hope it's closer to the two years and not the full six.

Did you guys happen to notice this thread in the General Section in the Retirement Forum? It's here on City Data.
http://www.city-data.com/forum/retir...insurance.html
I had a real mess with my health insurance moving from PA to DE.
It all seems crazy to me. As we boomers retire, many of us are moving away to sunnier more attractive areas. No coverage and messed up coverage will be an issue for sure....as if health care isn't messy enough right now.
JoycieM - I want to wish you well on your new adventure in life. I am a widow too...at 49yo...30 year marriage. Somehow the best support I got was from complete strangers who were also widows. There's a lot of us out there. I applaud (more like cheer ), your willingness to keep going and find a new relationship. My bestest to you and Ron!!

On the portability issue, here is what I've been told:
If you are in a network covering a certain geographic area and you move to a different state, your employer needs to set up a network for you in the new state with your insurance company.

Charley,
As a retired health administrator, you know better than I that good health care coverage is a must, especially as we age. So, I don't care how long your wife has to work to get the coverage you mentioned, stick with it. Medicare parts A, B and D won't cut it. As the baby boomers retire, strains on the federal health care system will be enormous. Expect more doctors to opt out of Medicare and expect Medicare coverage to decline.
Also, expect Parts B and D to increase their premiums as the years go on. Of course, if Hillary wins the Presidency, we'll all have national health insurance, just like Canada (lol).
