So I went 3 years without a cleaning. I was in a bad place for a while. Eating a lot of candy. Feeling down. (I did continue to exercise though). Only brushed once a day in the morning. Flossed every other day. So finally I decided to stop being scared of the dentist. I noticed spots of my gums bleeding a bit so I made an appointment thinking I had gum disease. They said my teeth looked "pretty darn good" it was just time for a cleaning. I only had one small cavity and I really thought I'd have more. I'm just really surprised and relived they were ok. Is that normal after neglect?

You're very fortunate. You won a genetic lottery, at least as far as your teeth are concerned. My hygienist has told me stories about people like you. Sadly, this is a lottery I did not win.

If I was diabetic would my teeth be in bad shape or still be healthy? Going to check that also when I go to the dr. I know someone who was and didn't take care of it and they had problems.

Bleeding gums is NOT good...I'm surprised they didn't say something about your gums! I mean, if your gums are awful, your teeth will go bad, too!

They said my gums were good. Just needed cleaning after 3 years. Only a couple stops had blood when flossing. It wasn't bleeding heavy or anything.
