Any good way to scope out a new dentist in advance? (teeth, side)

Besides "ask your friends!" of course.

I do not think the guy who took over for my (now retired) dentist is a good fit, but I want to know more than if he is "nice".

Maybe like "Is he going to push tooth whitening and other cosmetic procedures" "Is he going to try to save as many of my own teeth as he can" "Is he going to pad the bill with little "checks" I don't need when there is no history of a problem or evidence pointing towards a new one".

Any suggestions?

Online review sites are a good source. Check Yelp and Google for reviews. You can check if the dental office uses other online services such as Demand Force of Zoc Doc. These sites allow you to learn more about the practice and read more reviews.
