I thought dental surgery- such as bone grafts- was covered by regular health insurance. Dental insurance doesn't cover a lot- just x-rays, cleanings, and maybe one crown a year or something. You really need to look carefully into both your health insurance and what any dental plan would cover.

Meanwhile, maybe look into getting the work done and paying by the month. Your health is paramount.

Health insurance doesn't cover dental services or dental surgery.

I've seen medical insurance "cover" bone grafts. The problem is trying to find a dentist who will agree to their fees that may not even cover the cost. I used to be in network with Cigna. My normal fee is aou $600. They would pay me $54 for a bone graft. But it cost me almost $200 just to buy the bone graft, so I lost about $150 every time I did a Cigna bone graft. So I obviously kicked Cigna to the curb pretty quickly.

Going through Healthcare.gov and selecting a BCBS plan, I was pushed to get a dental plan as an add on about five different times. This is something the insurance companies are fighting for with so many dentists now offering monthly membership plans themselves.
