Hello,

About 5 months ago, I had my tooth prepped and a crown put on. A year ago this tooth had a root canal as well.

My question is, during the tooth prepping procedure, the dentist has to place some type of filling in there at the time before the actual crown is placed on right? Ever since this procedure I have been dealing with face rashes, dry, irritated skin, and other issues such as nasal drainage, etc. I suspect this to possibly be due to the filling being possibly amalgam.

I tried calling my dentist office today to see if they can check what type of filling was used, but the lady said there didn't seem to be any filling placed on the day I had my tooth prepped after checking my record.

After a root canal, there was a white looking filling on top but this I assume is temporary until you get the crown right? This filling isn't kept all the way to the crown right since the tooth still needs to be drilled around to prep to fit the crown?

So right now I am just really confused.

Does anyone know if while a tooth is being prepped, that new filling is usually placed before the actual crown is put on? Or is the temp filling during a root canal is kept through this entire procedure? This is for a lower back molar as well.

Thanks

Did you tell them the symptoms you're having? If not, call back and tell them and see what they say.

Read through this explanation of how a crown is made; maybe you'll see an explanation for what you thought was a "filling." https://www.verywellhealth.com/numbi...cedure-1059036
