Went for my 6 month cleaning. They said a had a lot of staining, probably due to coffee and red wine. I brush with an electric tooth brush twice a day, and floss. I also rinse after drinking wine. The ultrasonic tool was used, and I am not a fan, as my gums are sore afterwards.
Looking for recommendations for toothpaste, or rinses. I also use Act fluoride. Thanks!

Then of course there's the unwelcome suggestion to drink less coffee and red wine. Choose alternatives more often.

I'm a smoker so I'm always concerned about staining. My dentist recommended and I follow:

1- brush after every meal
2- rinse often, especially after liquids that can stain
3- sip thru a straw
4- electric toothbrush
5- antibaceterial mouth wash with whitening (I use Crest 3D White)

6- whitening toothpaste (I use Crest with spearmint oil)

I also do whitestrips. Crest makes one that is a once per month for one hour. My dentist was ok with me doing bi-weekly.

Avoid toothpastes that have fluoride in them in the form of stannous fluoride. Although manufactures now claim stannous fluoride pastes have been improved to reduce staining issues in some people, it still causes staining in a lot of people. Use a sodium fluoride paste.

I drink green tea. It stains my teeth. I figure the health benefits are worth some negative cosmetic effects.
