Hi,

I'm moving to Denver and am wondering what the major banks are in the area and what people would recommend.

Thanks!

we have used Wells Fargo and Compass and UMB - in the end we stuck with Wells Fargo as my stock investments and our mortgage is also with them

I've been with Wells Fargo bank since I was a teenager. Don't know how big they are in Denver, but I would recommend them.

Wells Fargo is not a good bank according to a former friend who had her mortgage through them. Oh my, they messed her up big time.

Anyhow I have been with US Bank when it was Colorado National back in the day and they have decent terms, never a mess up on my account that I didn't cause myself and are available 24/7.

They are all over the place including in some King Soopers on the Front Range. I've taken $ out of ATMs in Vegas and not been charged for the withdrawl there as long as it's a supported ATM.

I've been with them (when it was CO National) since 1990.

If you do business with a major bank now, they probably have branches here. The two banks with the most agressive marketing & promotions are Chase and Wamu, because they are the newest.

I, too, have been with US Bank since they bought out BankWestern, and they have earned my business several times over.

US Bank must be decent. Warren Buffet has bought a serious stake in them this past year. Our mortgage is with USB. When we closed, Wells Fargo was at the table, and WF re-sold the mortgage on the spot to USB. One of these days I'll understand the mortgage biz and why they do things this way.

Default Another banking option

You might consider checking out a local credit union in lieu of a bank. Most offer the same basic services as banks, but are non-profit & member owned. This means they can offer better loan rates, better savings rates, and your money is better insured than banks offer. They don't usually charge monthly fees for basic accounts such as checking or savings.
It's a nice change to not pay monthly service fees.

Late to the party, I have used Wells Fargo for years and they have been nothing short of perfect.

If you bank with Bank of America, you'll be in for a surprise. There are NONE here! You would think that considering the bank's name that there would be some in Denver Metro, but there aren't any. They have plenty of BofA ATMs, but they don't accept deposits. I chose USBank because they seem to be ubiquitous around here.
