My wife and I are moving from Columbus, OH to the Denver area in 3 weeks. We are both in our mid-20's and are looking for a safe area that is close to shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We have been told the Washington Park area is nice...any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

You must be coming from Ohio with a pile of cash if you are looking at Washington Park. Almost everything is more expensive in Colorado versus Ohio.

It doesn't sound like you visited Denver prior to making a relocation decision. You might do that even though you already plan to move in 3 weeks.

Renting or buying? Budget? Define "safe." I am gonna go out on a limb and say Lodo. Bar fights excepted.

wash park is not particularly close to shopping, restaurants and nightlife, if by close you mean being able to walk within a couple blocks. i'm not sure why everyone keeps being told that wash park is the happening neighborhood.

shukertj - My wife is being transferred to the Cherry Creek area, I was a mortgage consultant for Chase bank, have since tendered my resignation, and am actively looking in the Denver area. I know job prospects are far and few between, but this was a very good opportunity for us to do something we have always wanted to do.

Hi releveng51,

An area that I love but don't see mentioned too often here is Park Hill. It's a quiet, older residential area with much of the charm of Wash Park; it's also slightly less expensive to live in Park Hill than in WP. It is right near City Park, the Zoo, Museum of Nature and Science, and all the restaurants and nightlife of 17th Ave. Park Hill is just a hop, skip, and a jump from downtown Denver and about 15 minutes to Cherry Creek. Are you thinking of renting or buying?
