What can I do? I cannot move as I am trapped in house that I overpaid for and my kids love the schools. I love Broomfield also. The commute, however, is a real bummer. It can eat 3 hours a day easy. Any suggestions for Financial Equity trader type jobs in the Northern part of town? I moved here a few years ago and don't know where to look. Never realized most jobs were in the tech. center. I am to the point where I cannot take it anymore. Any advice? Thanks.

Why do you have to go to an office for that type of work? I would think a job like that you would need to get in early, before rush hour really gets going but I guess not.

what if you were to drive to the nearest rail stop and then train the rest of the way?

You could find a place near DTC for 850/month. Stay there Mon-Thursday night. Wife and kids can drive to you a few days a week for a cheap dinner.

Perhaps adjusting your work schedule will cut down on the commute time?

The RTD route T goes between Table Mesa and Arapahoe Station. Takes 75 minutes end to end.

Route can be found here http://www3.rtd-denver.com/schedules...e=12&routeId=T

Yikes, the new rail expansions can't come soon enough. Some people I've known in similar situations have had to shortsale their house and rent a place closer to where they work to cut costs. It's amazing how much time and money our auto-based infrastructure costs us...

Can you Telework? If not, ask your employer about it.

I'm allowed to telework up to three days/week, although usually, with my specific work/tasks, I telework only once/week because most of the tasks involve other people and it's just easier to be at the office. Anyway, a combination of working from home for 2-3days/week and traveling at off-peak hours (say, working from 7AM-4PM instead of 8-5, 9-6, etc.) could really help, if you employer allows it.

And now we see why the first question forum members ask of newbies looking for neighborhood suggestions is, "Where's work?"

OP, you're in a pickle. I suggest trying to work out a telecommute agreement with your employer.
