I am trying to find the best route for commuting to work in Golden. I am new to Colorado and don't have a clue as to if there is a better route than 25 or 470.

I was wondering if I could go west on Arapahoe past 25 and take some other road north to get to Golden.

Any thoughts....open to surface streets if the traffic flow is good. I'll be working regular 8-5 type hours so regular rush hour times.

Thanks in advance.

Get a new job or a new house. That commute is terrible. c-470 to santa fe to 6th. Do yourself a favor, move.

That is a terrible commute. I went from roughly downtown Littleton to Golden. It wasn't killer but double it and you've got SE Aurora. Don't get off on Santa Fe - take C-470 all the way around. It is much, much quicker than piddling up Santa Fe with all of the lights.

Agreed -- this is the least bad route to take. You need to get out of your lease and into a new place quick as this commute is going to be old really soon.

Golden is a nice area -- a bit expensive but there are adjacent areas in Lakewood and Arvada that are much more affordable.

470 is probably the best route...you will be going against traffic through Highlands Ranch / West Centennial. Avoid Arapahoe...it moves too slowly heading west in the morning.

Oh yeah. If you are going to do the 470 route...get a transponder...it'll save you 10% on the toll portions.

Default DFW traffic vs. Golden commute

Thanks to all. I wonder if the commute to Golden compares any to commuting the Dallas-Fort Worth area. That is where I moved from and it often took 30+ minutes to drive 8-10 miles to work. Tell me it is not worse than that!

I would not say it's worse.

I drive 12 miles from HR to CC. I consider myself lucky if it only takes 30 minutes.

If work is west - find something on the west side to call home.

I moved to Denver from Orange County and my 11 mile commute, during rush hour, was often near or even over an hour! That's a big reason why I wanted to get out of there!
