We are a family relocating from England to either JeffCo or Douglas County in the next year with our much loved two-year old family pet, Sadie, who is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

I have searched on the net for banned breeds in CO, but keep coming up with pit bulls in Denver City/County.

Does anyone know if Staffys are part of the generalization of banned breeds for the State, Denver City/County and/or JeffCo or Douglas County?

Don't want to ship her all the way and then find out she needs to be destroyed as a banned breed.

Thanks,

All I am aware of is a ban in Denver/Aurora and yes it would include a Staffordshire Terrier. I'm not 100% sure but you could call the city/county to check before you decide on a residence. Here's a link to some municipal codes for local cities:

Were you able to find an airline to transport your dog most do not?

Default Rentals

Also, nearly all the corporate and larger apartment complexes ban bull terriers in Douglas and El Paso (CO Springs). It is very strictly enforced and the managers I've spoken with are very firm on evicting tenants if they find one on the property.

Thanks for the info.

My girls will be VERY disappointed that they can't bring Sadie. I will call the local offices to check by each county.

I think you should contact an organization like the Denver Dumb Friends League, which is an animal shelter. I think they would be able to point you in the right direction as far as finding housing that would allow your dog as well. They have a "Pet Friendly Rentals" section on their site. It would be a shame to have to send the dog to a new home.

Thanks for alll your help. One site led to another that led to another that led to another but I got there in the end.

Just for your information, there is a rescue association called Colorado Pit Bull Rescue and they've informed me that only the following cities have a ban: Denver, Aurora, Commerce City, Fort Lupton, Lone Tree, Castle Rock and Louisville.

They weren't any of the cities we were looking at anyway; my children are relieved!
