Hey all-
I have been reading through the forums like most job hunters and this is our situation- which is a bit different from most:
My husband has 5-6ish years of experience as a GIS Analyst (has a bachelors in this) and just recently received an associates degree in Programming. He was employed in Denver for 2 years, but lost his job and had to move back home to the midwest with me (I did not have a job/the experience that could let us survive there).
Since we moved back, I decided to get as much experience as I could in my job field-
I have a bachelors degree and just finished a Paralegal Certificate. I have actually been working as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal for over 2 years now, but figured the certificate would help potential employers.

Long story short, we have more education and experience between the both of us.

We miss Colorado all the time - like most people would - and want to get back. I see job openings for us all the time, but feel like it could be a trick. Hell, I'm DON't want to end up going BACK to Colorado, just to return home with my tail between my legs for a 2nd time.

Has the economy gotten any better? My husband had a great job in Denver a couple of years ago, so it's hard to believe that it hasn't gotten a bit better since when he was let go. STILL I want facts. I know it's not going to be easy- and we wouldn't move until my husband had a job lined up, but I don't want to end up in a bad situation like that ever again. Denver is where our heart is, but maybe we need to wait even longer before before returning.

Thanks for any advice!

I'm a GIS Analyst and my agency just hired an analyst to replace someone who took a new job. Your husband should join the GIS Colorado mailing list and get involved with the GIS community that way, since sometimes job announcements are posted to the mailing list before they make it onto sites like gjc.org. Also, check indeed.com.

I'm not sure how the job market is in terms of GIS positions and I don't want to give you false sense of hope, but what I can say is that while I've seen a lot of openings being advertised online, my agency still received around 120 applicants for the position we just filled, which is unusually high for us.

The company I work for posted an add for a GIS Tech and left it open for only 5 days. 63 Applicants! My supervisor said that several candidates were at the GIS Analyst level. They were thrilled that the applicant pool was so strong.

Thanks for the advice. I think its very hard in this market to get any job- that is a strong pool of applicants!
