Default Commuting from Evergreen/Morrison/Golden/Boulder to 1600 block of Broadway

Does anyone out there commute from these areas to Denver on a daily basis? If so, what's it like to commute? What's it like to live in these areas when not commuting?

We relocating from England and really, really would like the space that these areas offer, but my husband will be switching to an office job (never having commuted before) and schools need to be near.

We've have looked at Greenwood Village/Cherry Creek, although very nice, they don't offer the space that we would want as one of our priorties to emigrate.

Our housing budget would be about $600,000 (cash).

I used to live in a resort in Colorado and I am familiar with the outlying areas so that's why I chose these areas for their beauty.

Lived in Golden, area of 6th and Colfax, commuted to Colorado Ave area, 2 round trips a day...easy commute straight east on 6th...in off hours, could get ugly in prime commute times...say around 7:30 AM eastbound, never had major problems westbound. Unless I came across an accident scene, it was always 15 to 25 minutes. From Golden, using the 6th Ave route, once you are past the traffic light at Colfax, there are only 4 (?) timed traffic lights until you reach Broadway.
Golden is a great area, expensive, but nice. Lots of green space, hiking/biking trails, major shopping is close. I have no clue about schools.

Regards

Thanks for that helpful info. For a minute there, I thought you were my husband. He also goes by gemstone but here in the UK.

Lots of mineral hunting/collecting in your area? My husband is a big collector.

There is RTD regional bus service from some of those areas. I have a few co-workers who live in Evergreen and Conifer and make the commute via RTD every day. They don't seem to mind. It seems pricey, but your husband's potential employer might subsidize some of the cost.

Thanks, cowboyxjon. I didn't know that RTD went out that far.

Hi Coloradosteener,

You may also like Conifer, another beautiful mountain town with a fairly easy commute to Denver. I know someone who lives there and loves it. Indian Hills is also a possibility. Do you definitely want a mountain feel, or would you consider the suburbs if you could find acreage?

Suburbs are okay, but we really want "a view". I thought Conifer would be too far to Broadway that's why I didn't mention it.

It does. It's all "regional" bus service, so the buses are more like chartered buses (nicer than a regular city bus; they have reclining seats, etc) that operate from Park-n-Ride locations. The nice thing about the 1600 block of Broadway is that it's right near Civic Center Station, so if your husband did use the bus, it would drop him off basically right outside of his office.

a view of what? what type of space? There are some houses here and there with expansive front range mountain views.

You could probably find something nice in Boulder in your price range. Be advised though, lots in Boulder tend towards the small size. It's not clear from your OP if you want space inside the house or in the yard or both. You can get the house but not a huge yard in Boulder. Commute wouldn't be bad, and there is also the RTD service.
