We are contemplating a move to Denver from the Midwest and I am curious about people's thoughts-- here are our criteria:

We are mid-30s w/small kids, would like family-friendly area
House ~$600K
We hate the cookie-cutter-subdivision-strip-mall thing, would like a little character
Has to be within 45 minute commute to Aurora (CU hospital)
The further west the better

Any ideas??

Thanks!!

i would highly recommending searching this forum- this question has been asked several times recently.

Also- why do you want to be so far west when the CU hospital is so far east? if you dont' want cookie cutter subdivisions, I recommend Denver. You'll find quite a bit of box-box, strip mall, cookie cutter in the burbs.

I think you may want to look south or southwest of Aurora, maybe east of DTC or as far south as Arapahoe Rd, east of Parker Rd. (I cant recall where the CU Hospital is)

There's been lots of great posts on this topic. You'll find dozens of neighborhoods in Denver that will fit the bill, all within 45 minutes or so of the new CU Hospital's Fitzsimmon's campus. Your desired price will get you into some very nice neighborhoods. Try Hilltop, Wash Park, Congress Park, Country Club North, Bonnie Brae. If you want to be further west you can look at Highlands neighborhood of Denver, but I think that would be a long commute for you. If you don't mind new construction you can find it in the redeveloped Stapleton and Lowry sites. Another neigborhood to look at would be Park Hill (just east of the Science Museum and City Park). Nice historic neighborhood, and it would be an easy commute to Fitzsimmons.
