Highest city on the continent? Denver is the 3rd highest capital city in the US.

Technically, all our downtown skyscrapers are over a mile high... you know, measuring from sea level

Default 800 footer in Denver anyone?

I'd love to see something in the 800ft+ range go up closer to LoDo to balance the three 700(ish)ft towers at the upper end of the CBD. 800ft would be a good height since lower elevation of LoDo would make the tower seem more in line with the 700 footers at upper end of downtown.

We're way over due for a 800-1000 ft skyscraper, but it will be at least another 10 years before we get one, hopefully sooner.

This is a lost opportunity here on block 162. Instead of two short buildings, the developer should of utilized the entire block and made it 750-800 ft. Do we honestly need that much parking above ground?

We still have plenty of surface lots before we can push further up. We kind of did things backwards in the 60's ,70's and 80's and tore down just about everything in order to build up. A lot of tall buildings in Denver back then were facilitated by various bubbles (oil, s&l, etc) and wasn't really due to land scarcity like it was when skyscrapers first came out.

These days we need that scarcity to get taller (or a corporation with a huge ego and too much money like okc). It's getting closer to that scarcity but developers can still justify mid rises with land acquisition costs in some parts of downtown. In fact a stand alone 7-11 with parking was built on a dt zoned property just a few years ago.

When we do get there a new tallest is unlikely to be in LoDo due to different zoning than the CBD and a design review board to get past.

Yeah, I didn't think you could build that high in LoDo or the new DUS neighborhood. Although the Confluence apartment tower is fairly high (35 stories?) and will stand out due to its location.

There's so much construction going on downtown right now, but all 40 stories or less. 1144 Fifteenth is a very interesting building. If they could have added another 15 - 20 stories, it would have altered the skyline dramatically.

Confluence was intentional based on what I heard from Ken from denverinfill -who was involved with the planning process-, they wanted something to stand out there due to its location. Like most of the CPV the Confluence is outside of LoDo zoning in a PUD that they setup when they were trying to redevelop the area roughly around commons park.

That's what I figured. And it will expand the overall skyline from some angles. Then others, like the Skyhouse, make no impact on the skyline since it's rather "buried" by all the taller buildings around it. Not that it isn't a great project that brings more people into the CBD.

The best area for a new tallest would be around 20th and Broadway up to Park Ave southeast to Glenarm. There are a ton of parking lots and abandoned buildings. Somewhere around Arapahoe Square.

Another area for a new tallest is upper DT.
