Does anyone know what kind of neighborhood the AmTrak station is in? I'm getting in after the station closes and will have to wait for a cab . . .

Denver Union Station is in the heart of "LoDo", lower downtown Denver. There are a lot of upscale hotels and restaurants nearby. There are also a number of upscale residential lofts in the area. That said, there are some very seedy areas very close to the Union Station, too, with some pretty questionable characters wandering around, many of them transient. So, I would say that you should be OK, but be careful. I was just down there on a work assignment for a few days, so I'm speaking from first-hand experience.

Yes, there are a few homeless people wandering around, but homeless people are more often victims rather than perpetrators of violent crime. Union station is not particularly dangerous IMO.

Hopefully you know that in Denver you can't flag down a cab. You have to call for one in advance to come pick you up.

Waiting outside Union Station will be no problem. The streets will be filled with people from the numerous bars and restaurants in the area. Not seedy ones, either.

Since it is right in the downtown (well, Lower Downtown), this should not be a problem. I do not recall any problems in that area either. As others said, because of hotels and other lively places, I would not think there would be problem getting a cab.

Default Thank you!

Thank you all, so much! It sounds much safer than my local train station which is in a rather isolated area of town. I feel much better.

Is that right? I have seen them at the airport. I don't take a cab that often, am not very knowledgeable about them.

Taxis line up at the airport and some selected hotels by special agreement. This way they have some control over who gets into a cab. They are not allowed at this point in time to pick up people who flag them down on the street.

It is very easy to call a cab in Denver though considering the phone numbers for two of the biggest companies are 303-333-3333 and 303-777-7777. Call them and they will send a cab right out.
