Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and signed on because I'm soon moving to Denver from Madison, WI to go to grad school. I've been reading some threads about good neighborhoods to live in and general questions about the lifestyle, but I have some questions of my own. Very helpful answers so I'm hoping you can help me! I've never been to Denver before, but I'm planning a visit at the end of the month.

About me, I would like to find a studio apartment in a neighborhood close to University of Denver. Someplace close to a bus line would be great. I also plan to take my bike everywhere (no car) so bike-friendly is also a plus. I prefer urban environments to suburban ones and also prefer independent retailers to chains.

As for questions, here's what I'm wondering:

1. I saw Capitol Hill, University, and Wash park recommended as neighborhoods...does anyone have any additional recommendations in the area? I've seen craigslist postings for Baker, Belcaro, Glendale, and Goldsmith, but I don't know anything about those areas. I'm concerned about safety as well, so are there neighborhoods in the area around the university you would NOT recommend? I'm a petite-sized female planning to live alone, so advice is much appreciated!

2. Does anyone have a recommendation about landlords? I don't know if this info can be shared on these threads, but I would like to know because I'm planning to give some a call to discuss what they have to offer and possibly see some places when I visit. On the flip side, if anyone knows some landlords to avoid like the plague, I would also like to know those too.

I've seen various landlords with Craigslist postings, but I really have no way to know if the neighborhood is decent or whether or not the landlord is.

Thanks in advance to all who wish to help! Any advice you have will definitely make this part of my transition easier

University is the closest area. You can find something within walking distance. There's plenty of bus service around there and a light rail station nearby. I can't help you on the landlords.
