My Wife and I are looking for a short term rental that is dog friendly while we look for a house to buy.

Padmapper and Google are coming up with places that look nice in the ads, but have atrocious reviews and pictures on Yelp/Google reviews.

Are there any short term rental options that a late 30s/early 40s couple would find acceptable out there?

only people with axes to grind write reviews about rentals. A problem with the input form of sites like this is that they do not allow multiple lease length descriptions. Thus many potential short term rentalsvare not listed as such

I lived in an extended stay hotel while I waited to close on my house. A lot of houses are vacant and you can close in 21 days.

I had a tough time finding anything other than an extended stay hotel after I sold my house and waited to close on my new one. Most of them are pretty pricey too (at least $1500/mo). I lucked out and found a cool lodge in Lyons that had great deals in the winter.

I would look at airbnb if you are on a budget and don't mind taking a risk (not that it's so incredibly risky, just choose wisely)

There are also vacation rental websites if money is no object and you must have a house. VRBO - The Most Popular Vacation Rental Site in the US

Other than that an extended stay hotel is going to be the best option.
