Would it be possible to have a job in downtown Boulder and commute from downtown Denver, with about 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. hours? What would the traffic be like, on average?

I'd rather not do it any would prefer to live much closer. Some people do it but it is not pretty. Double your commute time if it snows.

If you search the forum, that has been asked and answered a dozen times over the years.

Still the same answer. Even by bus.

You'll hate life if you do it. Live in / around Boulder instead, or work in Denver.

U are looking at around an hour each way at best. And that assumes you live downtown.

Anything's possible, but by Front Range standards, it's not a good commute: by NY standards, it's cake, but one of the advantages of living here is you don't have to make that tough commute. Your drive time will vary depending on how close you are to i-25 and how far north you are but you'd need to plan on at least 45 minutes minimum during rush hour.

If your job really is in downtown Boulder and you want to live in Denver, I wouldn't drive, I'd take the bus. To me, riding commutes are much easier than driving commutes. Look for the BV or BX bus from Denver to Boulder on http://www.rtd-denver.com/

If you're renting, I'd probably rent in Boulder for the first 6-12 months and see how it goes. If you hate it, worst case, you had a short commute to start and you can move when your lease is over to someplace that you've really checked out.
