I want to whine a little too!

I just got a ticket at a meter. The issue time of the ticket is 10:12 pm, yet parking at metered spots is free after 10pm. I'll go down and protest it next week and see what happens.

Oh - and one of my pet-peeves is people who don't park between the meters. It sucks if you don't know the rule, but it sucks more when people don't park right and 2 cars and up taking up space where 3 cars could have parked.

Many of Denver's metered parking spots downtown now allow you to park overnight (it use to be no parking from 2-6am - period). The downside is that at these spots you now have to pay past 10 (and for most of the night). The rates at these meters are $1/hour from 8am-2am, $0.5/hour from 2am-6am, and free from 6am-8am. There is no time limit on parking from 10pm-8am, but you do have to pay. You probably were parked at one of these spots, so the ticket at 10:12 was properly issued. Again - read the meter and you won't have a problem.

As to overhanging a spot - it sucks when somebody does that. Thankfully, people who do it get ticketed for it.

It's been years since you could have free parking after 10pm. Unless you are in one of those off streets away from downtown.

I've lived, worked, and driven in downtown Denver for years and parked at Denver controlled parking (either metered or time limited) literally thousands of times. I've only ever gotten 2 tickets over those years (once for street sweeping, once for going over the meter), and I deserved both (and both times I went straight to the parking magistrate who reduced the fines to $15). If you pay the meter for the time you'll be parking and if you read the signs, then you won't get parking tickets. It's really that simple.

Listen to me: I PAID THE ****ING METER! That's why i am bitching. When I put coins in the meter and swiped my debit card it said 'time limit reached' at 9:20 they ticketed me, I didn't see it until after I came out after 10. I had ample time to park there they had no reason to ticket me.

I used to live in Downtown Miami and parked in Miami and South Beach. After 12 am downtown is free EVERYWHERE. In South Beach I believe it's after either 9 or 12. The only times I got tickets was when I was too drunk to remember to move my car by 9 am! Here in Denver, they find every reason not to let you park. Street Sweeping? After hours? Where the hell am I supposed to park then?

To be quite honest, your descriptions of how you were unfairly ticketed don't make any sense to me. I'm not sure what you're saying.

All I know is that in 15 years and probably over 1000 instances of parking at Denver meters, the meters have never once malfunctioned and I have never once been improperly ticketed (the only 2 tickets I've ever gotten were entirely my fault). I find it very hard to believe that it's happened to you at least twice in the short time you've been here. I'm 99.99% sure the mistakes were yours.

I'm going to get so much laughter for this one, for those of you on this forum that remember me, but...

How about you go back to Miami if it's soooo great!?!

There are plenty of overnight lots you can park your car. You can feed a meter until 2am, after that it gets towed. You cannot park in a street sweeping area (although those spots don't have meters I believe), and you can't stay in the same spot for more than 2 hours. Soon you can stay overnight via a meter.

So, either figure out the rules or quit b*tching and move back to lovely Miami.

Also, as Hammer says, we are yet to get the real details of your ticket.

You can park overnight at downtown Denver meters now. The rate is $1/hour from 8am-2am, $0.5/hour from 2am-6am, and free from 6am-8am. There is no time limit from 10pm-8am.

Overnight parking becomes available in downtown Denver > Government > Stories > Denver > YourHub.com

Thanks Hammer, and note, you still have to move after 2 hours, even if you keep dumping money in the thing. Personally, I'd rather pay the $10-$12 for overnight and not have to worry about it. That's what we did this last NYE when staying at a downtown hotel.

Well, you have to move every 2 hours during the day still. If you parked at 8:01pm, you could stay in the same spot until 10:00am the next morning without having to move.

Take another look - after 10pm you can stay in the same spot until 8am, at which time you'd have to start paying again.
