Default Moving to Denver, safe place

Hi, I'm a female graduate student and I'm moving to Denver in a month. What is the closest area to Denver University that has a reasonable price and it’s safe? I've looked on-line at some places in Glendale area but I don't know if it's a good area. I'm looking for a safe place that is close to both the university and groceries. I don't know anything about Denver! thanks

The DU neighborhood itself is safe and has grocery stores, Target, etc. It is also near Cherry Creek Mall for your other shopping needs. Glendale is safe. If you possibly can, come out and take a look around, rather than renting online. There is plenty of rental housing available. (DD lives in that area, is also in grad school.)

I would not consider Glendale a good choice for going to DU. It is a separate city and not part of Denver. It has a reputation for loud bars, striptease and a younger cheap housing and for me no style. I would not consider any area on Colorado north of I-25 interchange. It is not close to the University.

I would consider areas, near DU, South of I-25, Near S. Downing. South of Evans on S. Downing is a good area near Porter Hospital.

Louisiana and Pearl (has a light rail station) and a nice neighborhood on south Pearl to Evans. This is one of my favorite areas in the city. It has a feeling of the old areas in the east with little bars and restaurants and close to shopping on Evans, west of DU.

There is a light rail station on South University and Buchtel, on the edge of the campus with housing nearby but I think for me it would be too close to the rowdy young college crowd.

Areas on University, south of Evans has multiple good housing with shopping and leads to an upscale area. On University, north of Evans is a very nice area including the Bonnie Brae area, near Exposition and an eclectic neighborhood with shops on South Gaylord just west of University, north of exposition.

Of course another area to consider is further north on University east on 1st avenue. This is the cherry creek area of Denver with great shops, big mall, bars, restaurants but more expensive housing and very upscale and a good yuppie area.

Here is a link to some photos that i took back in May of a neighborhood just a little west of DU. The area just immediately west of the university is similar in housing density and scale, but has a lot more rentals to students and therefore the landscaping and maintenance of the buildings is not quite as nice, but it is still a good area. If you go to craigslist and do a search for "DU" you will find a lot of rentals in the area.

Default D.U. area

Hi - I'm a D.U. alum and know the area well. There are many cute homes for rent south and west of the campus. The Observatory Park area east of the university also some nice rentals. The Washington Park area is nicer, but pricier. There are also new condo/apartment construction close the campus too. Good luck. Sumisu
