Hi, I'm visiting Denver soon for a job interview and will have about 3 days to explore housing in the area. I live in Ohio so I'm unfamiliar with Denver, and I would like some recommendations about nice areas to live either in Denver or within about a 20-mile radius of the city.

I'm a 30y/o female and would like to check out apartments and/or condos and/or houses...I'm really open at this point...and just need some suggestions for areas that are affordable (but nice and not crime-ridden) and that allow cats. I don't really care if I'm in the epicenter of the Denver nightlife or anything, but I don't want to be too far away from any activity. I'm looking to spend approximately $700 to $900 on either rent or a mortgage payment. I'd love to hear from people who have lived in Denver for a while who can give me some educated opinions! Thanks in advance!

Congrats on getting an interview. Focus on getting a job, then find acceptable housing near that job. Most people rent, but it's okay if you don't like moving to buy something.

The area is too big to work on one side and live on the other.

Commerce City (and the NE sector of the metro area in general) is the crappiest part of the whole Denver metro area. If you do end up moving to Denver, I'd first look at living right downtown, and then Stapleton or Lowry as your best choices. Possibly parts of central Aurora (not northern Aurora) if you specifically want to be in the suburbs and want slightly lower rent.

I have to agree with Vegaspilgrim... Ive been staying in Commerce City for the last 2 weeks (motel until my apartment is ready in downtown denver).... It is not the best of places and I honestly cant wait to get moved into my apartment (that could just be my hatred for motels starting to talk however).. I would recommend staying downtown, the drive from my motel to Capitol Hill takes roughly 15mins depending on traffic

Is the Cherry Creek/southern Aurora area nice? I wasn't thinking of living in Commerce City after reading about it; I was just letting you know where the job is.

Stay north. Don't give yourself an ulcer by driving from South Aurora to Commerce City.
