Default Capitol Hill's Mezzo?

Hey, I am planning on moving into the Mezzo apartments, as I am having difficulty finding a smaller building to accomadate all my needs, and it should do for a first place in Denver? Or is this a big mistake? Is the area safe, what time is too late to go out walking for a young, petite female. Has anyone lived ehre before have some input? I can't many pictures on it, but it sounds like an OK place. I feel I may have lived in worse (low income Portland, OR) but just not sure, as Denver seems so much different than Portland in terms of safety. Correct me if I am wrong, but I should be good walking 2 or 3 a.m. walk to King Scoopers without any trouble, I mean am I the only one on the street or will I be greeted only by the homeless or hoodlums. Just want to get an idea. Seems like the area will be pretty cool, lots of things to do, and 420s. Is there any really good, safe/pretty/interesting routes for a girl walking her little furry companion to the potty? Even late at night, maybe a more popular park for young people to chill, with pups or not? Also, any good vegan friendly thai places w/ killer curry and vegan pad thai? Sorry for so many questions, just new and figured drop in and get some info. Also is there a vegan buffet? What 24 hour places can I go for after hours and chill w/ people my age, possibly my pup can come too? I would like to know some animal friendly cafes/shops where I can take my kid. I really love buffets, but they need to be vegan, maybe even an Indian buffet, but vegan option? where can I go to meet people like me/ kind of alternative, into music/ art/ you know. Also, any cool cofee shops that have open mic, and local bands that is pretty chill? Portland style? Just saying Portland style because I like it more than PHX style and DENVER is WAY BETTER PHX and I only lived in PHX and PDX so I would know .

Safety-wise it's fine. However I think there are far better apartments in the neighborhood at a better price and value. Also edited to add the apartments are very small in square footage. When I moved back lived in a different highrise on Logan street (before buying a house) and paid a cheaper price for a 1 bedroom with double the space and a 6th floor mountain view.

Here's an article I wrote about the Mezzo (formerly Sherman Tower) a few years back. Also check out apartmentreviews.net

Vegetarian places: Two great ones are City O' City on 13th, and the more upscale Watercourse Foods on 17th. I'm not vegetarian but love the food at both places.

I think jamesdenver has a good post. Mezzo is pretty overpriced for what you get, IMO. But hey, if you have the money to burn, go for it. City O City is definitely the go-to place for the local hipsters and vegetarians alike. Chipotle is also close by and I know they have a vegetarian burrito. Same with Noodle & Co. (which is in the same plaza as Chipotle).

Also check Craigslist and local rentals. You can find people renting halves of houses, duplexes and shared spaces for much less than apartments - and have a nice "home" rather than share a building with tons of people

Thanks guys for the responses. Great Blog James. I have done so much searching and I found the Mezzo for under 1k for a 1 bed room w/ a patio and view, w/ first month free and great deposits. I would love to find better, how much should I be paying for a 1 bedroom in this area w/ a view (mandatory)? And I need to be in an animal friendly building. I get discouraged when I call places and they say there is a year wait list! Wow, Denver is getting hott, no? I feel lucky to have the opportunity to live here, no matter the length I stay I feel like it is gunna be uber fun. Are there other sky rises in a walkable, safe neighborhood w/ stuff to do other than the Mezzo in Cap Hill for under 1k with a bedroom, view, and patio? Thanks for the responses!!

Your posts have been very helpful. I'm a single active, outdoorsy, outgoing female that is moving to Denver at the beginning of September. I will be visiting Denver in a week to go to the Widespread Panic show and to look for jobs and apartments. This will be my only visit before I move out there so I'm trying to get as much done as possible while visiting. I checked out the site you suggested - apartmentreviews.net - and it was helpful to an extent... Any thoughts on the Baker Tower Apts. only one bad crazy review from 2007, Regent Park Apts. no reviews available, or the Overlook at Mile High Apts. had poor reviews until 2008 and then none good or bad since. I like the idea of being able to see the mountains while being close to the downtown area, or being in a more rural area with access to the light rail so I can go downtown without having to drive and deal with parking. I'm on a seriously low budget until I can get settled and am afraid that I will end up in an unsafe part of town due to my $ restriction.... when I mean low I'm looking to pay ($400-$600 max) for rent and I have two cats so the place needs to be pet friendly. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated : )

Hey TC :P, I actually found good apartments in your range, studios in the 500's in Capitol Hill, nice respectable building, that are pet friendly! The Palisades look nice, in the 500's w/ wood floors, but I don't think they meet all your critera! LOL. Good luck and enjoy your time, let us know what you decide. If you want to know some more, that are studios w/out parking in Capitol Hill in your price range, let me know glad to help if i can. I am soo excited to move!
