Cherry Ck Arts Festival, July 2-4
Hello All...
I'd like to go to the festival for a few hours, probably on Sat morning (I'm guessing it will be less crowded than on Sun/Mon?). The info states 350K people attend the festival. I was wondering about parking at the Cherry Ck Mall. From the site map:
... it looks like it's the central parking location (near Fillmore).
The festival begins at 10am. I was wondering if others who've gone in year's past can give me any idea on if I could leave Greenwood Village at 9am (I'm at Exit 199 off 25) & easily get a parking space at the mall? I don't mind paying for parking in other locations, but since I'm not familair with Denver, I feel I could easily find my way to & from the mall.
I'd go as early in the day as you can. Remember that it will get really hot in the middle of the day.
You can easily walk to the festival from any of the three parking locations on their web site. Everyone else and their brother will be trying to get the free parking at the mall, so your plan to leave by 9:00 is a good one.

Also, can I walk from the mall to the festival?
Thanks very much. Happy 4th All!
Why not save yourself the hassle of finding parking and just take the RTD. Even on a holiday weekend there should be pretty good service to the Mall. Maybe drive or take the light rial to the University of Denver Station. Then take the 24 bus to Cherry Creak. Looks like it runs every half hour and would be about a 15 min ride. Or take the bus from Southgleen. That looks like it would take about 30 min. Probably take you less time then trying to find a parking space.

Aloha! Nice to see you again, Dreaming! Agreed. These events are nice for 2-3 hours of sun, noise, throngs of people, fried $$ treats... then, it's equally nice to make way to the car, turn on the a/c, pop in a NIN CD (noise of your own choosing is always acceptable noise, yeah?) & venture home.

Great, I'm glad I can walk from any parking lot suggested on the site. I don't mind paying, but I figured not knowing the city, the mall would be easiest to find on my own & I was hoping it would be walking friendly and/or have a shuttle bus to the festival. Since I'm single, I'm glad some folks will be bringing their brothers. Now I surely have to go... I can also leave at 8:30am, which seems a better plan. I'm sure there'll be some place open for coffee. I didn't see it on the CC Mall's website, but maybe their food court opens earlier during the festival.
CO directions from HI are still my favorite, thank you. Happy 4th to you & your family!

Thank you, this is very helpful for future reference. I'd like to drive this time. On a holiday weekend, with so many expected to attend the festival, I'd think that any form of transport would be a bit of a hassle. I figured as a backup plan, if I get onto 25N headed into Denver at 8:30am & traffic is bumper to bumper, I'd just get off, drive to one of the light rail stops near me, park & take the train... I'm guessing that could be tricky, too, as no doubt others will do the same... probably the earlier I leave, the better.
Happy 4th!

I live near Cherry Creek and I've been to the arts festival a few times. It does get crowded, but I don't think you have to worry about bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-25 because of the arts festival. I'm sure you'll be able to find parking within a reasonable distance. It's not a very difficult area to get to, in my opinion. Just take I-25 North to University Blvd and go north on University from there. Either park at the mall or look for parking in an adjacent neighborhood.
Just as a reference, the arts festival is just north of the Cherry Creek Mall and its' no problem to walk to from the mall. The Mall is on 1st Avenue and the festival is on 2nd and 3rd, including the streets that run north-south between those, like Clayton St, Fillmore St, etc.

That's just the info I needed, thanks very much! Happy 4th!
One thing I've noticed this year is that there are a lot of parking lots that charge between $3 and $5 to park, but there is also plenty of free parking in the area. I get coffee in Cherry Creek every day and I had no problem with my normal routine even though the arts fest was going on this weekend. There is some parking that is restricted during the week, but OK on Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays, and there were plenty of those spaces on Saturday, Sunday, and today. So this is just a tip for people thinking about the arts fest -- take a look for those spaces before spending the money to park!

Howdie, Cowboy. (Always wanted to say that!) For a host of reasons, I didn't make it to the festival, which was too bad. But, by next week, I'll have made it to the CC park & mall, so your directions are still helpful. I'm not normally a mall shopper, but would just like to be more proactive in finding my way around. I haven't driven in a few years (had great public transit, so didn't need it) & am for the 1st time driving a bigger car (have gone from my normal 2-seater to an SUV)... so I'm a bit shy about navigating my way... I still roll my eyes & shake my head when I see how I park almost over the lines in a large space... geesh! Fortunately for me, Denver is filled with large spaces & with some practice, I'll learn soon enough.

Good to know for the future & it doesn't surprise me. Denver seems to be a very manageable city, compared to most of the huge cities I've lived in CA & back east. Once I venture over that way a few times, I'll be more comfortable visiting more regularly.
May I ask which coffee places you'd recommend? Any good Italian/Irish bakeries in CC?

Update to Cherry Ck area...
I missed the festival, but, have driven passed the area weeks ago & luckily today, walked about the CC area with a friend... near the mall, visited a few coffee places & restaurants... it's a lovely upscale area with lovely people & their small children. Very nice area with a good feel & I'm glad I've found it & spent the entire day strolling about the 'hood.
Thanks again to all who offered help. I'll be back to the area once/mo, at least. As a newcomer... loving Denver!
