Default Cherry Creek State Park

What is this like? I know there are hiking/biking trails and swimming, but are there areas with trees/lots of trees?

Take a look at my photo tour I posted a few years ago, this should give you an idea what it looks like: Cherry Creek State Park -- PHOTO TOUR. There are cottonwood trees lining the creek, but other than that, it's wide open treeless plains.

I would NOT go swimming in Cherry Creek dam if I were you.

Actually on the south side of the reservoir there are some hiking trails with lots of trees (relatively speaking). We've seen deer and owls in there, so it's a neat place. Couldn't tell if that area was in Vegaspilgrim's excellent photo tour.

I think the triathlons use it.

It is awesome. No other city approaches the level of wilderness so close to a huge urban center. There are deer all over--what other city has that? Keep in mind that it does get very crowded, but you can find solitude if you look hard enough.

Nice gun range inside the park too, pretty much the only reason I go in there.

"No other city"? I take it you haven't been around much.

Lots of deer? Guns? Hmmmm, sounds like a Venison Roast to me! Blamm!

BTW: COLO SPGS has deer crawling all over it, Foxes too, and Coyotes, and Bears play on crowded golf courses (as seen on national TV). In Estes Park, the elk lounge around on people's lawns.
