We just moved to Thornton from North Carolina, and we were curious when we passed two Chinese joints that had signs advertising $1.25 per scoop or $1.15 per scoop. Is that just an ice cream scoop of food?

The thought of it really grosses me out so I've never been to anyplace that advertises Chinese food "by the scoop". But I do think you are right.

I don't remember the exact location, but it was somewhere on Washington St between 120th and 104th on the west side of the street. One of them looks like it used to be a Taco Bell.

So, can you shed some light on places like this? I'm definitely intrigued.

There used to be a place like that on Arapahoe Rd & I-25 called "Ho Ho's." I agree with Dorthy, the sound of it is pretty gross. There are still a number of cheap Chinese buffets around town though.

To answer the OP's question, I never been to one of those places where they served by the scoop but all the chinese all you can eat buffets I liked and never got sick. County Buffet I went to the ER after eating there and was in intense pain and on antibiotics for 3 months.

There was also a Ho-Hos in the King Soopers shopping center at Broadway & Mineral (used to be a Cub Foods back then) where the Little Basil is now back when I was in High School. Went there once and it wasn't bad.

you mean wild basil? I know there is one on county line... terrible thai food. They actually replaced the hot red chili's with jalapino's lol. I want to try Viet Pho off Lincoln in Lone tree, but just today I saw where one was coming soon across from park meadows.

There used to be a $1.00 scoop place right near the high school I went to about ten years ago. I remember eating there numerous times.

A "scoop" was basically a scoop from a big spoon. Much larger than ice cream sized scoops. For $2.00, you could have rice and sesame chicken. We loved it.

However, every once in a while one of us would get sick.

Sadly, that shop, as well as the awesome donut shop closed down. There was something about the donut shop dealing meth as well...
