I am relocating to Denver from Durham, NC. and thinking of renting a place that is on Logan st. near Speer blvd. (the Speer neighborhood I believe) and I am just wondering what the general opinion is on that area from people that live in the area or know it well.

Thanks,

Honestly, this is one of my favorite areas in the Denver city limits. Very historic, traditional district, with old buildings, etc. It's in a great location, near I-25, Broadway (bars/restaurants), and its a 20-30 minute walk to downtown, 5-10 minute car ride.

Neighborhoods like Cap Hill, Wash Park, Lodo, etc are all popular choices, and for good reason. But the Baker area has just as many positives about it, if not more. I think its a little less trendy and popular (which can be a good thing depending on your outlook) than the areas I just mentioned, but there are still many young people in the area.

Great! Thanks for the quick reply. That sounds like is exactly what we are looking for. We have lived in Atlanta for a number of years before we moved to NC. & there was a Neighborhood close to downtown called the Virginia Highlands & from what I have come across in my research, the Capitol Hill/Spear & Baker area seems very similar to the VA. Highlands type of neighborhoods. Plus its very close to work for my wife and myself.

Thanks for the info

i live in baker and this is a good description of the neighborhood. i would add, it is very easy to bike downtown, 15 minutes on the cherry creek bike path without fighting traffic. but i hardly go downtown at all since i prefer the scene in my neighborhood better. i would try to look a few blocks further south of speer since most of the action on broadway is below 2nd ave.
